Could it be this?
Reports of a few springs failing.

It is a broken spring & I would have to replace the entire assembly. Then I get home and I read these responses with the links to the same bad news.

As Murphy would have it, of course you're out of warranty. (Silly question on my part).

If you are in the least bit handy you can probably try the fix as shown in the prior link.
I cannot overstate how easy these cars are to work on, and there are service manuals abound.
The entire spoiler mechanism is held in place by a couple of bolts, and I can personally attest to the simplicity of the disassembly process of the rear of the car..

If all else fails, search for a used mechanism from someone who opted for an aftermarket ducktail etc. A body shop can swap it out for you if you have two left thumbs.

Keep us posted..

If you have it in you, please document your solution.
I fear a lot of us will be dealing with this design defect down the road.

My 993 was a bulletproof compared to all the plastic used in the 991.
Not sure why you would use plastic in a high-temp / high-stress area, knowing it will become brittle and prematurely break.
I suspect your rivet solution will work well..

What about extending the end of the spring (with a coupling) so that it hooks on the outside of the casing?

This is true - constant heat cycles will eventually cause the plastic holding the spring to fatigue and fail. Wondering if there is any preventative measures that can be taken to strengthen and prevent the plastic from fatiguing? Would treating the plastic with a cleaner or plastic rejuvenator of some sort help?

Given that these failing spoilers are a safety issue (think back to Audi TT's flying off the road), shouldn't Porsche be worried about this OBVIOUS design defect coming back to bite them?
I know, wishful and naive thinking on my part...

My spoiler is fixed. I think the reason these spoilers get jacked up on one side is because once the plastic notch breaks off, it leaves the spring's long ends free to grab hold on anything while the other side of the spoiler continues to move, until it gets all jacked up. I cut the last coil off.

Congrats. Did you happen to take a pic before reinstalling?
