if you run into problems, especially with the engine, the 996tt is cheaper to look after.

^^Curious as to your reasons for doing this. I've thought about it long and hard because I've always wanted a 911 turbo since adolescence. Nevertheless, whenever I've had the chance, specially this year, I've been hesitant about it. In my case it's for a 996 turbo versus my 2006 Carrera S. Would you mind shedding some light in the subject? Thanks!

BTW, I've heard about $1.00/mile on a 993 turbo, if owned for a long time, once the mileage creeps up to the 60k+ range. I wish someone tells me otherwise with documentation as this is a car I'd own in a heartbeat, if affordable - $1.00/mile is Ferrari maintenance!

Mine has been a nightmare....the 993TT is a stunning car but you must remember it is 14-15 yrs old...things happen and happen and happen...my next expense is going to be a rebuild...buy the newest and nicest car(Porsche turbo) you can afford...I would not buy another 993TT...in fact, I am considering selling the one I have and spending that money on a 996TT...Steve C 97 993TT Portland,OR(black/black...new paint, Patrick Motorsports ECU upgrade, lightened flywheel, GT3 clutch, muffler delete etc)

996tt is cheaper to buy and cheaper to maintain. The only problem is that you are driving a 996, and that is unfortunate. 993tt are at the bottom of their depreciation curve. 996s will continue to get cheaper, that said the 996tt is a heck of a value at <40g.

996 is cheaper all around but an air cooled Porsche is pretty unique. I do a lot of my own maintenance on mine so its not too bad.
