When I was 16, a friend of my parents took me out on a sunny Saturday morning for a drive in his silver 993 c4s.
Two things are as fresh in my mind today as they were then: the high pitched shriek of the engine, and the pedals that were mounted in reverse.
When I bought my band new 997.2 c4s in may 2011 I was a little disappointed that they changed the pedals around, and the engine didn't sound anything like i remembers it. But i still fell in lust with it. 20 months later I've clicked 92,000km and it's been a blast.
Yesterday I drove passenger in the car I remembered (and then some) - a 993 turbo, silver. There were those pedals, there was that high pitched banshee noise.
If the PPI checks out... If I convince my wife that I need a second 911... Well let's not get ahead of ourselves.
One question (for now): leather is as youd expect for a 16 year old car - kinda worn. There's the special allure of original leather, but there's this beauty to certain kinds of restoration, like what singer does to the 964. How do you guys deal with wear and tear that's more on the cosmetic aspect?

Well I've been directed to a really sharp guy at EU autoworks in Woodbridge Ontario and I've asked him to cover most of that rennlist ppi.
Hopefully I'll organize myself in a couple of weeks.

Current owner has agreed to a ppi at my dealer of choice but brought up one issue:
If there is damage either by the tow company (he'd like it towed there - salty canadian winter roads) or by the mechanics (pfaff Porsche), who would be responsible for the substantial drop in value?
He'd like me to be responsible, and agree to pay the predamage value if the ppi checks out.
The car isn't museum quality and is road driven about 2000 miles per year, so I think it's just a trust issue.
Any tips on where I can go from here?

And that's what the dealership said - they would repair any damage caused to the vehicle while under their care.

I find it strange that he's concerned with all of these "what ifs". These are things that he'd have to consider any time the car leaves the garage. The likelihood of damage occurring that is severe enough to reduce the value of the car is slim. It would mean body panel replacement or major paint work.
Again, diminished value should be the responsibility of the tow company or the dealership (even though they almost certainly won't pay for diminished value). There is no reason for you to be on the hook for it. I know I wouldn't want to pay market value for a 993T that's had recent major paint work, even if it was perfect before the incident. My opinion is that if he wants to sell the car, he has to assume the risk. It's not even a very big risk. Most potential buyers will want a PPI anyway.
