1996 993 TT for $40k?

I'm new to the Porsche scene and I have the opportunity to purchase a 1996 TT with 75,000 miles on it for around $40,000. The price seems very good compared to what I've found online. My only fear is the high mileage. What kind of problems can I be expecting? Would you pull the trigger and make the purchase or wait till something lower mileage comes along?

Spend some $$ and have a Porsche certified tech. inspect the car. Sounds too good to be true IMO.

That price is way low even for that mileage. Might be a salvage, flood or other car with a "history" or perhaps serious mechanical problems. Have it looked over well by someone who knows these cars.

That would be a great score. Imagine, a future classic for relative peanuts... WOW. What color is it?

I finally saw the car in person yesterday. Its black on black. It came in off a trade at a local porsche dealership. They have to "put it through their shop" before they will sell it. It looks like a hard 70,000 miles that were put on it. Once I decide against it I'll be happy to share the contact info of where to find it.

If the car is accident free and cosmetically ok, I'd be figuring in a top end rebuild, valve guides and it still sounds like a good deal.

Good luck!!

If it's hard (tracked) but will maintained it may be worth going after it, PPI dependent from a shop that Knows 993Ts. If it has been abused and neglected I would pass on it. 40K + top end + clutch + suspension + bling mods = 60k + car. It wont be a bargain after all.
