993tt, 996tt, 997S oh my!

Here's my dilema, the 996tt's are dropping in value alongside the 997S' due to increased mass production from previous years. I'd say the '02 996tt's resales are averaging $65-$74k, the '05 997S' are around the same with the '06-'07 993tt's in the range as well (with good miles). I prefer the older look of the 993tt but you obviously come up short on the luxury features. So here's my questions:

Could it still be used as a daily driver? Also, let's say I find one with 30-40k miles on it, what kind of maintenance costs can I expect? What should I look out for when researching these cars? Is there a specific year I should be looking at?

I was going to buy a new 997S but I've since decided this may not be the way to go.

Thoughts?

BTW, here's a great looking 993 at a local dealer:

It really depends on what you want in a car. If you are just looking for a daily driver then the 997S. If you looking for power and still have some comfort then 996tt. The 993TT is really for true enthusiast who uses the car for weekend thrill. It's classy, sexy, visceral but cost more to maintain if driven often. These cars are ten years old thus the aftermarket parts are more harder to find and more expensive. Also its an aircooled so its more diffult to extract crazy power then the 996tt....
Looking at the line of cars you owned I say buy a 996tt. There are lots M3 owners on here upgraded to the 996tt that are very happy....

If it were my daily driver and looks were more important than mad power, it would be a 997s, now weekend toy and be different definately 993T.....now if you're looking for best all round bang on the dollar..it would be a 996T which when modified is a monster...and still be a daily driver...imo

Post it on rennlist and hear what folks have to say..

Man tough decision, each are awesome in their own respects! I wanted to maybe try out a 993tt a while back when i wasnt too happy with the 996tt, it was too tame and numb for me, after going rwd, having alot of power, sways and slammed on suspension its finally making me satisifed or giving me thrills lol, that 993tt is AWESOME, i love it but just wonder about how they feel and drive. I really need to test drive one!

As said the 993 is mucher rawer traditional feel.996 TT is very civilised by comparison (untill modified) and 997 even more so.

i asked this same question not too long ago. like someone said earlier, it really comes down to what you want out of the car. it's a tough question to ask yourself. i've been trying to answer this same question myself... do i stick with my 997 GT3 order, or go with something less track oriented?

aside from the comments above, i would add - if you haven't done so already - that you should test drive each of the cars. and try to test drive them back to back. you'll be amazed at how differently each one feels.

good luck! keep us posted!

I've owned a 993tt it's a great car. However for what you are trying to accomplish the 996tt is the way to go, atleast for me it is. I may get killed for this but I actually like the look of a 996tt more than the 997.

the only thing is you will collect a lot of business cards on your windshield asking if your 993tt is for sale....

Great choice on the GT3. I'd love to jump on board and get one of them but I'm tied up with other investments at the moment. My thought process now is to get into a '02-'03 X50 and do some light mods (chip, exhaust, intake). I will heed the advice of test driving them back-to-back; that clearly makes logical sense. Another stick in the spokes is that this will be my daily driver and if you take a look at my sig, you can probably guess where I'm from. Though the winters haven't been bad the past few years, we're still going to run into 2 foot storms. The positive side is that I can work out of my home office if need be.

I have had all three, if you like to PM me, I will be ahppy to give my opinion. The brief, 993tt the best looking, the 997S the best car. The 997S is high tech compared to the older cars and pulls very strong, I have the X51 package and that's makes a difference. The turbo is nice, but feels heavy.
