993 turbo S

I'm new here...i've been watching the various 993 turbo S cars for sale and want to buy one soon. I was a little surprised to see how the prices have risen, having passed on one 2yrs ago at 100K with 24K miles. Anyway...there is one on ebay that seems nice, does anyone know the car? Also, has anyone had dealing with sloancars? They always have nice cars.

I'm also interested in the 964 turbo S at sloans, the black one. Anyone driven one of these rare cars? He writes that the 964 turbo s has over 400 hp...is this true? I thought it was about 385 or so.

I've owned a 930, 996 turbo, carrera gt, and a few ferraris...presently having a challenge stradale, bmw 2002tii and 3.0 cs.

I wonder if anyone can give me some advice or description of how the 993 and 964 turbo S cars drive. Also, would you rather have one of the above OEM cars or take a 993 turbo and get the ruf conversion or pick up a ruf vin'd car?

thanks in advance

I have also looked at several Turbo S 993s. I am amazed by the prices and feel they are inflated at this point. Two years ago, I had the opportunity to buy a 20K mile car for $91K and let it go. I feel the 3.6 S is the same way. Maybe I am worng and they are the next real estate market.

Go to the the Rennlist and do a search on Sloan. Some people have had poor dealings with him. I also find he is part of the "inflated" price problem. I had the chance to buy a car from him a few weeks ago for less than $110K when the car was on his website for over $135K.

As far as the cars, 1994 3.6 S is going to be quite different than the 993tt S. There is a thread about the difference on the rennlist as well.

Finally, there are several Ruf vin owners on the Rennlist. I would ask them about those cars, but personally, you would spend more for the Ruf, but I feel it would hold it's value based on the rarity.

Just my two cents!

I love my 993 Turbo S, but, honestly, would enjoy driving a regular 993 TT just as much, and a modified 993 TT even more. The difference is that I am betting that all-original 993 TT Ss are becoming collector items, while the others are not. So, really, I think the TTS prices are reflecting the expected lack of depreciation going forward. So you might have to pay 150k or more to get one, but it might stay there or go up, while a modified TT might be had for 75 but drift down. In the end, the total ownership costs might be about the same despite the 2x original price differential. I think that is justifying the current prices.

I think similar statements could be made about both the Ruf VIN cars and the 964 S.

That being said, if I could sell my TTS for 155k right now, I would be very tempted to do it. Esp. since the original sticker was 155k 10 years ago.

I went shopping for a 993TT/TTS last month and visited Richard Sloan north of New Haven (Woodbridge), and had a wonderful experience. The only deterrent to me for purchase of one of his 993TTS's was price, but only because I plan to mod. my 993TT-I ended up buying a 1997 993TT from a Porsche dealer in New York. I am planning to do a Protomotive 3.8L/700HP conversion on it this winter, so a pricey 993TTS didn't make sense to me.

I DID look at the black/black 964 Turbo S 3.6L "Package Car" at Sloan, and if I had money to burn, I would have bought that one too. There are discussions all around about the power output of that car (I think there were about 20 made for the USA), but I think the reality is they put out about 400HP (before further mods., of course). But Sloan's looked to be in excellent condition.

CCR, I am with Al on this issue and prefer a highly modded car to a stock car that sits in the garage. I do try to balance my cars so that I have a couple of cars that are appreciating though and in that sense, an S might be a good choice.
I drive a cs also and have been looking for a 3.0 for a couple of years. I just have not found the right car at the right price. Do you drive yours much?

Cs

yeah, i was looking for a 3.0 cs for years and then found a nice ceylon gold '73 and a polaris tii '73 in the same month. both were in CA and i ended buying both. Each reportedly had 20K original miles...and interesting stories.

Our Challenge Stradale is part of a LLC i formed with two friends from high school. We have had some awesome cars and now want to buy only long term keepers and i guess we see the '94 and '97 turbo Ss has milestones in the porsche history...furthermore, they are the cars we loved in our teens and twenties.

I drive the CS and tii a lot when the weather is nice. I'm taking the stradale on the Utah Fast Pass in August. This is an awesome event and anyone interested should look into it.

thanks for the responses. we'll all sloan and see what kind of deal might be worked out. RPM has another nice blk/blk with sport seats...at least there are a couple of cars right now.

I like the idea of a LLC exotic car investment group.
How do you set up the driving/maintanance issue?

Actually, I meant do you drive the 3.0 much? Do you know Ryan who recently sold his F40 to my friend Mike?
I think I spoke to someone from your group about a car a few months ago.

3.0

I also meant the 3.0...it's the CS designation that is confusing. I do know Ryan but didn't know he sold his f40...in fact i'm surprised. I thought that was going to be around for a long time. he's always flipping cars though. i wonder what has grabbed his attention now.

the 3.0 is wonderful to drive and very solid. of course performance is poor c/w modern cars but it drove better than a dino i got to drive not long ago and not much worse than a daytona. i just love the shape and the pillarless coupe look. i get a lot of compliments on that and the tii...more than our ferrari.

Our LLC works great. We're all old friends and busy with work and kids...so actually drive time isn't much of an issue. We split all costs of maintenance and if one get's in a wreck we split it 50%, 25%, 25% for any costs over insurance. We've been able to own some cars we never would have been able to alone...not just b/c cost is prohibitive but our wives would never have allowed us to do it...now the blame is spread over 3 people and the cars aren't always in our garage and our wife's face.

We're excited about these S cars right now...hope we can find one at the right price.

Nice, I wish you good luck in your search.
Thanks for the LLC overview, sounds like a great idea and a good wife diversion as well!!
Great minds......
If its the same group, you guys have a cgt?
The S is very special and seems to be moving in value accordingly.
If you ever see another nice 3.0 for sale, please shoot me a pm.

turbo S

I looked at a few recently and passed on a great deal, 95 k for a blak/black 20,000 mile turbo s. I think the current high prices reduce the chance of any further appreciation from here unless we are talking aout buying a 1,000 mile car and holding it for 20 years. Paying 168k for 5,000 mile car and driving it, I think you have slim to no chance of making money on it within the next 5 yrs. I think the only Porsche really still a decent buy if potential appreciation is the goal would be a carrea gt. Although production was a little high many have been crashed, raced, or shipped out of the country. Not many perfect cars left and the amount of tehcnology that is in the car is unlike anything else around. I choose to keep my 997 TT and use it over buying a 993 TT S

Where is that black/black car? I might buy it. What is its problem, if any?

993 Tt S

it was at carriage house motor cars in greenwich, sold an hour after I took my deposit back. was a nice car no major issues just not a mint car. was a great deal I just don't have room in the city for more than my 3 current cars Audi, S8, 997 TT, and Ferrari 360, and did not want to give up either for the S.
