Steering Wheel Fitment - Advice

I recently purchased my first Porsche. It is a 1995 911 Cab. and it is more than I hoped. The previous owner installed a Momo Steering Wheel, which is awesome. It just feels right in my hands - it feels like a Porsche should feel - IMO. However, this wheel does not have an airbag and, at the insistance of my family I need to install a wheel with a proper airbag.

I am looking for advice as follows:
First, will the 996 Steering wheels fit in my car? If so are any modifications of the wheel or hub required?
Secondly, I am looking for opinions as to which wheel I should pursue. The "feel", safety and quality are all important. If I could have this wheel with an airbag I would be in heaven.

I like the looks of the 996 GT3 wheel. Where can I buy this wheel, will it fit and what is a realistic price?

Your help and comments are much appreciated.

Thank You,
Mike Bishop

You can fit the older Boxter wheel with just bolting it on, & of course it has a airbag. Te bad part is the airbags just went way up in price to $1000 new. So it's about $1600 for the conversion.

You can also find a used stock 993 wheel, they sell for about $300.

Mike,
Very sweet cab. To answer your question, 996 wheel is just a straight swap into 993. Thanks to Stealth's info, I just bolted my fatter 3spoke wheel from my GT3 into my 993. Lovin it and it's still factory.

Thanks for the help, photos and compliment. The 3 Spoke is definitely the way to go - looks great on your ride. Love of car is a disease I am happy to have!

Sincerely,
Mike Bishop

Thank you for the compliment. You are living my dream.

My 993 Cab shares garage space with our 2006 Mercedes AMG E55 and the obligatory Mini Van for the very supportive wife and kids. However, I am in love with the GT3.

This is the latest manifestation of my particular flavor of the disease. I took my father to Skip Barber in Monterey CA May 23rd/24th. Needless to say this did nothing to quell my desires.

Mike,
Yes, it is a disease however, it is healthy. At least it is cars, for some it's recreational drugs, booze, fishing, fire arms, womanizing etc. etc.
Funny, my GT3 shares the garage with my E55 too.
Tracking helps to keep you sane.
We are all sick.

Ah - you have great taste my friend. The E-55 is awe inspiring and my favorite driver for comfort cruising. You, my friend, have the perfect garage. Share the RENNtech Stage II Mods - I'd love to get a first hand impression. I will add the GT3 sometime in the not too distant future. Do you track this?

After Skip Barber I am considering adding a Lotus Exige - awe inspiring - an overgrown go kart. I've accepted that no cure exists - feeding the addiction is the only way to roll!

Since I am being nosy - have you modded the 993? Mine is a 95 Cab. After much research I become convinced that this was the best year. OBD I being one of the reasons. Share if you are so inclined.

Not nosy, it's a public forum. Purchased the 993 (also a '95) from a local long time PCA guy. Will leave this classic mostly stock. It already has special turbo twist "technology" wheels, Pss9's, Turbo suspension, motor sound package and RSR mufflers. I added GT3 steering wheel and HID's.
E55 used to be my favorite, until the GT3. Now this luxo cruiser is only used for highway trips and comfort cruising. It's an '01 and only has 19K miles and still smells new. Would sell it since I don't use it but, the resale on this is offending. Then I drive it and the torque reminds you why you keep it. It's such a sleeper.

Found My Wheel...fed the disease

Guys - thank you all for the help. I have been looking for a good solution and found a GT2 CF and Leather Wheel with Air Bag for my ride. I also happened across a CF and Leather Shifter and E-Brake. All items are Tequipment. My disease is incurable - for that I am blessed and a bit poorer. I'll add installed photos in a few weeks.

Sincerely,
Mike Bishop

Yes confirmed, please be advised that the 04-05 GT3 has the option for a "thicker" wheel.

I've only seen a handful of 996 GT3's and I am pretty sure non have had the "think" option. I would think the odds of running across one of those wheels in the wild would be pretty slim. I am probably going to buy a normal 996 3 spoke and have these guys http://www.dallassteeringwheel.com/sw3.htm thicken it up for me for my 993TT.

My buddy has the Ruf/TechArt/FVD/Recaro ultra think airbag big $ wheel and his '96 Carrera. It feels awsome in your hands and looks really cool. I think it works fine in a 996 or 997 but in the 993 it completely obstructs the view of druck press, (that's the old school air cooled 911 word for oil pressure for any of you water pumper guys) speedo, and tach.
