AMGfan Porsche 993 Speedster Build...
I'm starting on a journey...purists will hate it but it's never stopped me before. I fell in love with the picture below...I've always loved the Speedster. Just something about the low windscreen and the clam shell on a wide body...no need for viagra there.
As with every project, I contacted Chris@C2Design and after over 40 emails last night exchanging pictures of speedster and figuring out the base car...etc...
I gave the go ahead to order the Speedster doors and the windscreen...the latter being the most hard to find. Chris said he had one parts guy laugh in his face when asked for the parts list for a Speedster conversion...esp. the windscreen which he said he hasn't seen in over 4yrs and those were damaged. Now I have the doors and windscreen coming......still looking for the clamshell, though.
It will be a long process...I still have to locate the base car... But I will enjoy the search...
A couple of things...we will redo the interior in upgraded black leather (probably use the OE Ferrari leather we used in the 993tt coupe) with red deviated stitching, add Recaro Sportser CS seats, repaint the car in Guards Red. It will be a wide body and the place providing the doors is pricing out the wide body rear quarters for us now. Oh...the rear and front bumperettes will be deleted.
As far as the engine...still up in the air. We are toying with either dropping a 993 Turbo engine in the car...running the car in 2WD...or building out the existing engine in the base car. Even the word outlaw engine was thrown around... We shall see...it really isn't a priority right now...basically making sure we have the body pieces, do our due diligence on the mechanical side, and find the good base car (more than likely a 96 or 97 carrera cab).
The goal is to have this as the end product with a classic neo-retro interior...reminiscent of the interior of my 993 Turbo build (no carpet or old hard leather). Let the fun, frustration, and wait begin...

For quite a while, I've wanted to see a 993 Turbo Speedster. I think that the clamshell humps would look great on wide fenders with a 993 Turbo tail (the curvy stock one, not the Turbo S tail). If you do a turbo motor, you'll need some sort of fixed spoiler anyway to clear the intercooler, so that's what I'd want to do. Plus, who wouldn't want turbo power?

We met today on color schemes...we agreed that we wanted to do something different than Guards Red but within the Porsche family color codes. We decided on Slate Grey and a custom bourdeaux/black leather interior with some surprises as far as door panels and dash materials.
Just one in a long line of decisions that are part of this journey.

The C2 cab arrived last Thursday @ C2Design...I drove it on Friday. I must say for a NA 3.6 it was stout...I was happy that it had good bones. I can only imagine at this point how much faster and responsive the car will after we get done with...we are shaving off significant interior weight, NA 3.6 engine rebuild/reinforcement, lighter flywheel, close ratio gearbox, and more aggressive wheel/tire/suspension setup.
Goal is to have the looks but back it up with a fun driving car in terms of engine responsiveness and sharper handling.
