Replacing a Fog Lamp

My left fog lamp died a few days ago... I called my service advisor and he told me that it will take a couple hours to take out the headlamp assembly. (issit really?!) I know it should be free(maybe...), but I dont want to go up the ramp at the dealership if its not necessary, because it will make damage to the Carbon Lip.

and my bodyshop are fully booked up.

Is this (replacing the broken fuse fog light) possible to do it by yourself @ home? or is there a special tools required? Does anyone ever done it before?

Fog lights are = H7 right?

Thanks in advance,
Endra

It takes 5 to 10 min max. Not even worth driving down to the dealership. Check the manual?

That's not a bad idea... I'll look around for PIAA bulbs tomorrow.

but, is there any problem changing them into higher watt bulbs?

because on MercedesBenz (CL and S), if the watt is higher than the standart ones, it'll triggered the computer sensor. The "check lamp" message will appear on the dash after you turn on the lights...

Thanks,
Endra

The way the PIAA works is that the ones I have only draw 55W (like your stock) but their output is equivalent to the brightness of an 85W...Also, the Extreme white matches the xenons PERFECTLY!!
I wouldnt put a higher wattage bulb anyway as I know from experience (friend's car!!) that over time your headlight housing can melt!!

Thanks for the info...

I have a quick question. I got my fog bulbs out... do you replace the whole thing? (see attachment) and its H3

Yes, and I also learn that before... that higher watt will melt the housing. I ended up buying another one.

thanks again,
Endra

Yup - you just snap the new bulb in - secure it with that wierd clicking latch and connect the cable - voila!!
Make sure you use a glove or or something as you are not supposed to touch bulbs with your hands as the oil from your skin can heat up later and cause damage...Besides fingerprints are nasty...LOL
