Racelogic Traction Control.... Anyone use this??

racelogic traction control for 996GT2: Any updates?
Did you finally get the racelogic unit to work with your GT2?

The reason I'm asking is that i'm installing a 996 gt2 engine in a older - heavily reinforced - 911 3.2 chassis. It's a narrow body chassis so i'm somewhat limited with the size of tires and have to look for other ways to control wheelspin...

Depending on the budget, I would suggest using a Motec EMS or other standalone with built in traction control. This will likely make your transplant easier to begin with, and allow the engine/ traction control /logging to all work together seamlessly.

I don't believe your car is using the 996tt ecu. Isn't it Motec. If so, wil not do use any good. I'd love to use Motec, but it will never pass a smog test in California.

That's one of the reasons i have to keep the original motronic. I need all the original emission control equipment to get the car road registered.

Does anyone know the actual reason why the racelogic unit doesn't work with the Motronic 7.8?

Its useful up to a certain extent ~700/800rwhp, too much power and you'll be running on 1 cylinder till you gain traction.

on a gt2 maybe you could try the abs/psm block from turbo or carrera 2 996 with the psm.........it is a different abs system i never try this but sometimes i think about this projekt corse the power of a tuned gt2 on cold streets needs always attetion.......

Only problem is the comunication with the gt2 software in motronic ecu.....

I just got the car back this weekend and due to the snow I couldn't play with it much. But when I picked up the car we went for a test drive. Right now we are only tuned for 93 octane @ .92 bar. Thats all the boost she's happy with on 93. John my builder believes she's making a good 575-600 rwhp @ .92bar. We will know for sure in a few days when the snow clears up and I get her to the dyno. I'm running NITTO NT01's and it was 16 deg.F. We did a few runs with it off and a few more set on WET. Every time we punched it on the off setting the *** immediately wanted to kick out. But on WET it is amazing how fast it corrects and keeps you straight by quickly reducing minimal power as it needs it to keep you going straight. Anyone with a High HP car especially a GT2 that has absolutely nothing to help you, it is a necessary investment and more so if you live up north.

I will have more feed back as soon as the weather clears up and we can hit 1.5bar.

Raudel--just to be clear-- car is on Motronic,Proto tuning & Racelogic traction control? Engine is built to what HP expectation?

This sounds very promising and is exactly what i need! (I expect "only" 550hp at the crank, but the car will weigh just 2400 lbs and will run on 245mm tires in the back...)

I assume your car still runs a modified software but still has its original motronic box? Can you tell if your tuner had to modify the Motronic to work with the racelogic unit? Or is it "plug and play"?

Red9- That is correct and we are expecting it to make 850-900 bhp

bluebird- This system is fantastic. It's so quick you hardly notice any power loss when its correcting. Yes, I still run motronics with Proto tune. I don't believe there was any modifying involved but I'll ask him.

Did you have a chance to hear back from your tuner?


The issue seems to be the misfire detection. At least thats what racelogic's sales manager stated in his reply to my question:



Hi Johannes,

Sincere apologies for not being in touch sooner - I have not been able to clear my backlog of emails until now.

In theory the answer to your question is yes - RLTC has been fitted to a 996 before and it works well. How old is your car please? I am concerned that if is new enough it will have misfire detection which would render it incompatible, so if you can find out about this I will be able to advise you further.

So the question is, does the Motronic 7.8 has a misfire detection and what consequences does it have if a misfire is detected? Would the ECU go into "limp mode" or would it just make an entry in some list?

bluebird- Yes, I asked John and he said no. No modifications needed to run Racelogic with Motronics. Right now I'm running 1.2bar and I went on a run this past Sunday and roads were wet from runoff. Everytime I would hit full boost I would feel the car pull back just enough power to get traction and then just launch. So far a great investment. John is currently tuning it for 1.5 bar so lets see what she does.
