I had -- and loved -- a 96 C4 but do prefer the 996 TT. Not just the power but the whole dealie.

It is supply /demand....but when I have the two types side by side...the 996 is just so much better. Everyone wants to say ...the air cooled was the best. My mechanic even has fondness for it....but in terms of time bombs....the air cooled cars seem to cost more to keep up. My 2c. One can see 700HP water cooled cars.

On kits and such, the 996TT seems to have it all. Contact a full bore tuner for power and be prepared to just be blown away. People have done 3.8's, internals, etc.

I had a modded 993 C4 NA car (see sig)...the only thing I miss is the "oldness" factor. I actually liked that. I suspect that is at work here to some degree. The less aero roof/gutters, the less slick dash, the radio way over on the right, the annoying pedals, the valve issues...

All depends. Do you want to buy a Porsche or do you just want to buy horsepower.

People will go on and on about how the 993 was the last of the air cooled and the last of the real Porsche's. Don't buy it. there are others that will say the last of the Porsche's died with the arrival of the impact bumper cars, and still others that say Porsche stopped making cars after the 356.

What many will agree on though is that the 993 is one of the prettiest if not the prettiest 911 ever made, and the Turbo (short of an RS or GT2) the ultimate in that family. C4s holds its value too because it was the poor cousin of the turb0.

But for pure driving and modern amenities, the 996TT cant be beat. It has the aggresive looks (more so than the slightly simpler lines of the 996) with a great performance package. The fact that there are so many of them means that they are a deal to buy. One just needs to know what they want. I kept my 993C4s for the looks and the 996TT for the pure exhilaration.

...So they made a car that was inferior to its predecessor...I don't think so.

I agree that the 993tt is a classic in terms of looks...but I prefer the 996tt rear spoiler/rear end treatment and interior.

I started off looking for a 993tt and happilly bought a 996tt.I think that overall it is a better package...plus the 993tt never came with a TIP.

I'm curious why you're detuning your Tip?

My 964 and Carrera is more of the "pure" porsche that I remember with the upright headlights. Why is the 997 the spritual succesor to the 993?? Is it because they went back 20 years in design and put round headlights back on it?

Aren't the 996TT performance numbers better than the 993TT. 0-60, 1/4 mile, "the Ring", etc. etc.

I can see the looks being subjective. But what are the figures.

Nobody has mentioned parts. I read in Excellence something about critical fan shortages. In general, the 996TT is more supportable.

As it has been stated before if is purely about supply and demand. There were FAR fewer 993's made then 996's. I think it is quite clear that the 996 is a more capible car then the 993. The 996TT can make HUGE hp and are all around great cars. The advantages (well at least for some) of the 993 are it looks and "feel". I know for me I will never give up my 993 but I will absolutely add an newer p-car to the garage, most likely a 996tt or a GT3.
It's all about what is important to you. Drive both and see what fits your style. No matter what you'll be getting one of the all time great cars! You just can't go wrong.

Yes. The 996 surpasses the 993 in all aspects of performance. Acceleration, braking, track times, etc...

But I don't think 993 owners care too much about that.

I own a 993TT & 996TT, nothing can beat the raw power (and feeling)of a properly modified 993tt, and nothing can beat the mix of "good and bad" manners of the 996tt,but with the new incoming GT2(mine) it might truly replace both of them.,cheers, Sonny.

Pretty much sums up the 993tt vs 996tt discussion.
