993 vs. 996tt
Pardon me guys, i am a porsche newbie.. I was just curious as to why the 993's were similar in price to the 996tt's? Everywhere i look, it seems like the 993 c4s and 993 turbos are more expensive than the 996tt's? Any particular reason for this?

yea.. but even an na 993 c4s costing more than a 996tt seems absurd to me, but i have seen it occuring a lot. The 996tt is a great bang for the money, now if only there was more aftermarket for it and the parts werent so expensive..

agreed... but i dont see why the na version would cost more than the 996tt since its not the higher end version?

It's all about supply and demand. There is demand for the 993 and there is supply for the 996TT.

The 993 is pure Porsche! The 996 was created when Porsche was belly up in finances and needed to cut costs and come up with a new strategy for marketing. This is why the 996 Carrera has the non-racing engine block, front lights/appearance of a boxster, and questionable interior. Parts sharing and cost savings techniques were developed along with Toyota execs during this period of time.
The 993 was the last of the aircooled engines, and is the classic porsche we still remember. Its no wonder the 997 is considered its spiritual successor (even though it really is only different from the 996 in looks). The 996TT is a great car, but I'd rather be in a 993 turbo.

It really depends what you're after.my latest purchace was between a 97 tt ad an 02 tt.
Got the 02. For me it was a better choice. I've had a lot of air cooled 911's
and was ready for something more in the 21st century. Even motorcycles are water cooled now, just so much more efficient. Even the GT1 was water cooled for LeMans
The 996 tt is a beast even before you mod it. It's a great GT and devours asphalt on long road trips and doesn't even breathe hard.
if I was debating between a 993 NA and a 996 NA, I'd take the 993 though.

Not me I had a 97 - 993 turbo for 3 years and the 996 turbo is better in every way.
