Depends on what level you're at and what kind of clutch, but generally I've found that 4000rpm hard clutch slip is the way to go. Make sure your tire pressures are low (25psi). Get progressive on the gas through first, then WOT the rest of the way.

Others have had better luck with a clutch drop, but in my experience all I have seen doing that is tons of really ugly wheel hop.

Good luck

You are so correct...I "fan" the clutch on the launch too.

I agree with Jimmer and S-351. Feather it - anywhere from 3,000 RPM's up. I go a little easier ...at about 3,000 RPM's.

Don't mean to sound dumb, but what exactly do you all mean by feather? Like ride the clutch out at 3k? What I've always done is ride the clutch out till it grabs a little then dump it.

Clutch slip means that you hold the engine revs at some elevated rpm, say 3000, and let the clutch out until it puts some load on the engine. Ypu hold the pedal at the partial clutch engagement point. You don't let the clutch pedal come all the way out until the car speed has caught up to the engine rpm. This is just a slightly more brutal version of what you do every day pulling away from a dead stop.

Clutch drop means bringing the revs up to the elevated RPM, let's stick with 3000, and then abruptly taking you foot off of the clutch pedal. Some guys slide their foot off the side of the pedal, letting the return spring push the pedal out.

Slipping is very hard on the clutch, dropping is very hard on everything after the clutch.

Jeff
