The Garrett CHRA has water cooling as an option on the sleeve bearing turbos and is standard on the bb turbos. The GT28/KKK hybrids have water cooled Garrett CHRAs.
KKK does not have a water cooled option on their turbos, but Kevin (UMW) made a prototype water cooled KKK center housing and posted about it on Rennlist. Water cooling is certainly a good thing but it is not necessary. It provides additional measure of reliability for the turbos and that is all. Has anyone ever heard of a KKK unit going bad? It is a very rare occurrence.

I doubt it. SS is less heat tolerant than cast iron. Cast iron has been the standard across all turbo manufacturers due to its resiliance.

Tial produces a direct bolt in replacement for the factory turbos but does not state if these are the stainless housings.The stainless housings are used in conjunction with the Garrett Compressor,bearing cartridge assembly, etc. and are cast with a much thinner wall thickness as the SS alloy casting can take more heat in that configuration.Yhey are quite nice!

They are casted though, not machined.
