KKK does not have a water cooled option on their turbos, but Kevin (UMW) made a prototype water cooled KKK center housing and posted about it on Rennlist. Water cooling is certainly a good thing but it is not necessary. It provides additional measure of reliability for the turbos and that is all. Has anyone ever heard of a KKK unit going bad? It is a very rare occurrence.

Thanks for your explanation!

I wonder, though, as the hybrid builders cram bigger wheels into KKK castings, and create new larger castings that maintain KKK inlet/outlet locations and sizes, maybe that water cooled center section will become more necessary.

I think Tial will be producing turbos that are not casted but made out of stainless steel? They would be smaller and vent of more heat? Does anyone know?

I doubt it. SS is less heat tolerant than cast iron. Cast iron has been the standard across all turbo manufacturers due to its resiliance.

Tial produces a direct bolt in replacement for the factory turbos but does not state if these are the stainless housings. The stainless housings are used in conjunction with the Garrett Compressor, bearing cartridge assembly, etc. and are cast with a much thinner wall thickness as the SS alloy casting can take more heat in that configuration.Yhey are quite nice!
I have sent a request for more info from there tech line.I'll keep you posted..........gman
