That's too high a consumption in my opinion.

Do you do a lot of city driving and short trips. In my 2003 Turbo, I was always in traffic and was only getting about 400 miles/quart. For my 2004 Turbo I have been doing a lot of my break-in on the highway varying engine speed not in stop and go traffic or short trips. Manual actually says to take longer trips during break-in. I was down one quart at 500 miles but think they didn't top off the oil when I first got it. I now have 900 miles and have not refilled yet, I'll keep you posted.

1K to a quart in normal driving is about the average. 300mile seems a bit too much to me

I'm running about 1/4 quart per 1000 miles with 13,000 miles on my turbo.

300 per quart is too much... something isn't right.

Rings? Valves? Leak?

I'd start with a compression test if there are not any obvious leaks.

I add 1 quart every 700 -800 miles. Yours seems a little low. Best to have it checked out before your warranty expires.

Was getting 300 miles per qt until 1800 miles. Now have 3500 and getting 900 per qt. Dealer is monitoring consumption. Have heard that P has replaced tt engines having continuing high consumption under warranty. Hope this helps. BTW, how many miles are on your engine?

I can almost double my milage beyween quarts if the majority of the miles are Interstate cruising.

Around town I now average ~1000-1300 miles between quarts, depending on where my right foot spends it's time.

I believe Porsche considers something like 600 miles/quart to be acceptable consumption.

RacerX - Doc's number is what I see on the PCA tech board for the 996 NA cars. I don't see where a number is shown for the 996 turbos on the PCA turbo board. If you are a PCA member, you might want to ask there. But 1 quart per 300 miles seems excessive - there must be some miles on an '01 by now. But - Stage 4 and do you track it? Careful with that and the dealer/PCNA if you are seeking some relief!

Jim - 1 qt per 1000Km is approximately 1 qt per 600 miles, and is the minimum to meet Porsche specs (at least, so it would appear, for the NA 996 models). The average should be considerably better.

Its been my experience that if you fill the oil to the very top indicator line on some cars you get a lot of blowby working itself back into the intake and consumption can seem high. Keeping the oil at the 1/2 line seems to help this condition and level off consuption below this point.

It is also common for the turbo seal to leak exhasperating this condition...

while it is possible that it is a piston ring or valve seal, its much less likely.

Have you had any MAF sensor problems? The oil in the intake will often cause premature failure of the MAF too, so it can be an indicator....
