BLown six Intercoolers install

Just thought I would let you guys know I had Kinetic Motorsport install my new intercoolers for me and in the process we discoverd that some modifying of some ducting will be neccessary for them to work properly. There is an upper and lower shroud or duct that mates to both sides of the intercoolers. The stock intercoolers are a bit recessed where these ducts sit against them. The blown six were totally flat so we had to remove some of the lip material and make it so the ducting could sit flush and not leak air and force the air to ge through the cooling section. It was easily done with a cut off wheel and a dremel type tool. It did take a while and needs a steady hand. I also noticed that these ducts were a bit stretched trying to go together on the new and slightly thicker intercoolers. We used some metal hvac type tape over the seams in a couple of layers and I feel confident that these will definitely support more power than the stock or GT2 ones. I am glad I did not discover this in my driveway with limited tools or I would have been pissed. I also would like to mention that the clip style mounts that hold the intercoolers in their frame were a fuzz shorter on the blown six units and we had to cut down the rubber bushings to get the c clips back on. All in all it was done right and they are awesome. I look forward to new tuning and turbos. I am seeing a more consistant 1.0 bar instead of .9 and I think it is because the units are less restrictive. I don't know for sure but my car was running very good with no issues at a PCA DE event at road atlanta. It was very cool though and even the stock units like it cooler. I dreccommend these units for the price but be prepared to massage a bit for the best install.
Later,

That's always disapointing to hear. What is the problem with actually designing a piece that FITS. I have run into this so many times.....sucks. But good luck and report back once you've put some miles on them.]\

I just did these myself and Silver is right on. They can be done and work well but it isnt quick or easy to do it right. I filled my gap in the shroud with flexible plastic filler, sanded and refilled and resanded. I did the inside and outside gap of the shroud and painted them with Black flexible plastic paint after the proper prep work and they look stock. I put new weatherstripping for a tight seal and they fit perfect.... Here is a before and after pic.

Thanks John, much more work than I anticipated but I think the B6 ICs are great quality and the price point is hard to beat. Still remains to be seen how they perform.....

I also had the blownsix intercoolers, install was the same as discribed above, what I didn't like was the inside which was not polished and felt rough,so I don't think airflow is so great.I didn't feel any difference and I removed them again after 14 days.My car has 566 pk at the crank and people told me these intercoolers were good for the big hp applications above 600 hp underneath the 600 hp they were useless..That's what I've been told..

Looks like a nice upgrade, keep us updated on progress.
Didn't see you last week at RA, did you and Rolo make it ?

Bill,
I am very strongly considering it. That is why I went ahead and got intercoolers. I probably really don't need them even with what I may do. They do seem to be bigger and better but there is no huge seat of the pants feel after install. My car did run cool as a cucumber all weekend at Road Atlanta but it was cool weather. I did not see you either Bill. Did you see Zman's black 997 GT3? It was #26 in yellow letters and it was badd ***. Looked like darth vader with the painted black rims. Rolo could not make it due to delays in new rotor order. His were probably not safe on the track as they were. I did see Neil and two other customer cars that were pretty nice. The one with the built motor and larger turbos was puportedly very fast. It was a great weekend. By the way Kevin nice work on the intercooler shroulds. Wish you would have done mine but they in there and the ducts are sealed and the shroud fits flush and tight against the intercoolers. Yours looks way better but as you know you can't see any thing when its in the car. Nice job though.

I have them installed on my car. I do live in canuk land and fairly cool here anyhow...but... summer does get crazy humid and stuffy.... and car still ran strong.... I drove car with stockers....and then these same mods..and did notice enough difference especially in mid aftertoon summer heat wave climate. yes there is minor shredding to do to intall em but not rocket science either. I think for the cash they are awesome.. I saw some for 3000 and above! jsut my 2c
