230+mph 996 TT

Just read about the following in a UK magazine..........

When Continental launched their new 224mph rated tyres for ultra supercars last month, they invited several German tuners to bring their fastest cars to Nardo's high speed bowl to test-them.

A few Porsches, Ferraris, BMWs, Mercedes etc turned up from many tuners (not Ruf though ).

The top two cars on the day were both modified 911s (not sure if GT2 or 996TT based).

Techart got their GT Street S to 360kph or 222mph

9FF got their 996 to 374kph or a staggering 232mph.

The tyre has been announced quite a while ago. It´s called the ContiSportContact 2 Vmax, rated up to 360 kph. As far as I know it´s currently only available for 19" wheels.

From what I have experinced,....... the Sportec turbos are not as good as claimed. Manthey however would compete very well at any shootout IMHO.

It was in a BMW magazine and the article was about the tires primarily..................

The tire is made in 235 and 315 sizes in 19" specifically for Porsche applications..............

Besides compounding and constructing for high speeds, the Vmax comes with a shallow tread depth ( 5-6mm ) to minimize heat build up.
