Stock clutch...........

I am torn about replacing the stock clutch when I do the turbos, etc or wait until it is needed.

I am not a drag racer by any means, I am a roll on type of guy, how many miles can one expect on a clutch that has 40k highway miles on it.

I am doing UMW Stg 2B turbos, wastegate mod and tune, how long you think it will last, 5k, 10k miles, etc

Christian

Do it now Christian, not even a question about it. It's a big job and might as well while you're putting on everything else. 40k miles and that stock clutch is ready to go anyway. My car had 28k and as soon as I added a flash it was up in smoke.

Christian-
Mine is on it's way as we speak. I pulled my hair out listening to different company's promises of having the best clutch kit for what I needed. With some help from Markski I narrowed it down to a couple vendors. Do yourself a favor and call Kevin at UMW. There are a couple other things you might think about doing while you are in there i.e. accumulator, slave, hose. Trust me on the Kevin part. And that is the only thing I have bought from him, don't think I am a UMW kool-aid drinker.

FWIW, I did 217'000 km on my stock clutch, including some racing and a lot of track days.

C,

I would do it now, and retain your factory (easy to drive) dual mass flywheel.
I have not regretted changing my clutch and retaining good drivability.
People either love or hate the ltwt flywheels.

Good luck,

Marty K

I'm in need of a clutch as we speak at 22k miles. I'm still torn on what kind of clutch to get. I think I will be sticking with the Dual Mass flywheel though.

Word to the wise. Don't go with a lightweight flywheel. Sucks to drive and sucks to listen to.

seen a stock clutch go a long time, even with larger turbos like 24/26's, but if you got the money do it. Doing the turbos though isnt going to affect the labor amount on the instal though (unfortunatly), since nothing you would have to disconnect to do turbos- comes off when dropping the motor out to do a clutch, just fyi. Bundling everything together though should get you a discount on the parts

C,

Talk to Kevin and get his clutch and pressure plate that he recommends.

with 40k miles, and that turbo setup, the stock clutch will be done in no time. It just doesnt have the clamping force for that much hp. I'd do Kevin's clutch/flywheel upgrade. It's 3k installed, and good for 650hp.

I would say the same .....Good advice especially that it has 40k on it and you did not drive it for most of that because you recently bought the car.
