.9 for an unmodified car is a healthy sign. I saw your car and although you say you only have a K and N filter....you really need to rack that car up and take a look under it to see what you've really got there. However your .9 bar run should be a pretty good indicator that it's running well.

I agree with Chuck 0.9 means you may be more than stock. That is healthy for a stock X50 car or a flashed K16 car. Either way it is running very well.

one hit wonder?

I hit .9 that one day and I haven't been able to do it again... Last night I was with my significant other driving and trying to hit .9 but was able to hit .7 most of the time... once we saw .8... Could it be because I had the weight of another person in the car with me so it was not able to hit .9 again?

When you say hit...do you mean spike? That number is meaningless. If you want to know what your car is boosting just go WOT in 3rd or 4th. What ever boost you sustain there is what your car boosts.

probably "spike"

yeah i guess i mean spike. how many seconds until it is considered "sustained"? based on my understanding, my "sustained" boost should be .7 then.

Guys, keep in mind that the stock "gauge" is completely useless. It estimates what boost is according to how much air is going past the MAF. Without hooking up a real boost gauge you have no idea what you're running. FWIW my car was running sustained 0.6bar with some very occasional spikes to 0.7bar stock, measured on a real Autometer boost/vac gauge.

I could only get 0.6 - 0.7 before te flash. After Flash and DVs I reach 1.0-1.1. The Flash and DVs should be a baseline for the 996TT.

Ray: Are you saying that with a flash and DV's....that the "baseline" should be a 1 bar or 1.1 bar readout on the boost gauge? Also, are you using those figures on a TT with the K16 turbos?

I ask because I'm hitting and holding 1 bar and spiking 1.1 with an X50 running nothing but Europipe exhaust system. I have factory DV's....I'm making the assumption that you're running the K16 turbos...right?

Bryant: I think you've got a vacuum leak in your system....you drove my car and jammed it to 1 bar boost....does yours come close what you felt in performance when you drove mine? You need to get that car on a rack and do an inspection of the hoses and connections. Didn't you say that you picked up the car without having a PPI done on it? I would bet that becasue is also doesn't have the right battery or hold down clamps, that there are some issues that need looking at. Call Larry and set up an appointment. Let me know when you're going there and I'll show up and go over it with Larry and you there....

:)

Chuck: sounds good. I was supposed to head over to Larry's yesterday... but the service at Niello Porsche took longer than originally planned. However, Niello replaced my brakes and rotors so I am a happy camper. Had to wait three hours but nonetheless it was done. My HRE 542R should be coming in today... after I get the wheels on, I'm going to call Larry to see if he has time to look at my car. i'll give you a call Chuck. Take care sir.

Chuck,
my 996TT is completely stock (K16s) except for the GIAC Flash and Champion DVs. I can get hit 1.0 Bar easily in 2-6 gears with great acceleration. Many times I see 1.1 Bar mometarily depending on conditions. What I meant with "Baseline" is that the car is so much more responsive and powerfull with those upgrades, that they should be considered standard. That is the best performance upgrade for the money.

boost pressures...

Hello guys...My car is a '03TT completely stock...It runs .8 boost constant all times...Once a saw .9 for a second...but only once...I am about to do the reflash these days so to reach 1.0-1.1 The car has only 44000km to the clock and it is in awesome running condition...With a friend of mine we read out stock software from my DME and compared it with stock software from '02TT.To my surprise there were many differences in advance timing, rev limiter(slightly different mine is at 6800 while '02 was at 6750)and boost pressures...Both softwares were from completely stock DME.

Well now I'm a bit perplexed because I bought and installed a set of the EVO diverter valves and replaced the stock Bosch ones. Since then, I haven't been able to hit 1.1 and only marginally can hit 1 bar in third with hard WOT. I was under the impression that the newer replacement diverter valves such as Bailey, EVO, and others....will allow you to hold a higher leve ov boost much more efficiently....yet the stock ones seemed to get me to 1.1 which I haven't seen again since I changed them out. It just strikes me a curious that before I saw higher boost than I do now with the newer DV's.

Check fot leaks at the F hose and diverter valves. Also, if you removed the boost hose from the Y manifold for better access, check that the seals didn't rolled when you re-installed the boost hose.

I replaced the spring type hose clamps with the screw type on the F hose, and pressed the hose all the way down to the stops, so I know there's no leaks there...but I didn't check the boost hose from the Y manifold. I'll go check that first thing tomorrow. The car runs strong...but just won't hit the 1.1 again...it will peak at 1 bar, but not hold it like it used to do with the stock DV's.
