I was wondering what the stock boost is on the 996 turbo... I've tried searching but have not found anything. All I found is a youtube video of someone commenting that the stock boost is .7 bar but was unsure if it was true or not. Thanks.

 

It's between .7 and .8 depending on who you talk to...

Is 1 bar relatively safe for a stock 996? About how much more crank horsepower would you get with a .3 bar increase?

 

With a good exhaust and flash you can gain about 70 -90 hp at the crank..

 

My car has been running 1.1 bar for sometime now with stock internals and no issues to date.

Just some clarification...when folks say they saw .9 or 1.0 or whatever is this sustained? I mean is this what you get in third or fourth WOT? If not it is just a spike and not representative of what your car is really boosting. Stock K16s will get you .6-.7 with spikes above that when conditions (e.g., environmental) are favorable. With a flash you can get much higher...the question is when do the K16s run out of power...most agree it is about 1.0-1.1. So even though they might boost >1.1, the power is not there. BTW it is not all about the boost....

 

WROSS: Yesterday while doing some fun runs with a Pantera and an NSX...I watched my boost gauge carefully.....really for the first time, and was consistently seeing .9 with a spike to 1.0...but the 1.0 was only sporadic and momentary.

 

Chuck, if I recall you are running an X50 package...they will boost .8-.9 normally. You are not running K16s as my previous post was about (since this is what the OP has).

My car will typically run 0.8 and I have spiked 0.9 but not sustained. I suspect you can thank the EP for the extra breathing and higher boost.

 

CDS and Wross: I believe you are both right. The combo of the X50 plus the Europipe may be making the difference. When you say sustained....how long of a period of time are you considering "sustained" to be? I don't want to mislead any folks....so I need some definition.

 

I don't know the official sustained threshold, but I would say at least 5 seconds (as long as you can hold WOT).
