ruf v giac
Interesting the warranty thing has now come up. Very few people in the industry actually give warranties and honor them. 9ff has one as well. I think 60K miles. We have always given a 1 year warranty with upgrades and engine builds and rebuild. We still do the same with the new turbos as well as the old CIS cars.
Regarding the Ruf versus the Stage III or IV. Ruf rates their first package at around 520 HP/546 torque. Stage III is advertised at 552/563. Before you get carried away the site for EVO says it uses a 20% driveline loss. I believe Ruf uses an actual engine dyno. I do not believe the Stage III would have much of a chance. Not sure what would happen against a Stage IV, but I wouldn't bet against Ruf. Besides Ruf makes two upgrades past their basic conversion.
Stephen,
I have never heard of an instance where Ruf has not honored their warranty. They have been around for decades. As a matter of fact, I have heard of several instances where Asgar, the Ruf Representative has gone over and above the warranty requirements. I have heard nothing but praise from anyone who I know who owned a Ruf product.

My comment was not implying RUF didn't honor their warranties. Read the line after that. I have no issues with them. I think I even have bought a set or two of their wheels. Oh yea, they are on my car.
RUF as well as RS Tuning and any competent engine builder/tuner will offer a "real" warranty.

Stephen,
RS Tuning makes a good product, however I do not believe service wise they are in the same league as Ruf/Weissach Performance. I tried to deal with them once regarding a transmission oil cooler for a 996tt. They have no e-mail, don't answer letters and I wasted three phone calls to Germany. Maybe someone else has encountered a better experience.

The rumor is that if you are a Yankee they have no tolerance for us. RUF has always made the US their home. The other thing is RS carries a different attitude as "unofficially" the factory approves of RS for mods. Whatever that means. Take all this with a grain of salt as my source is a crazy European.

As far as I know Todd has never used a 20 % loss factor. Everything the GIAC dealers quote unless on a Mustang is 15%. I actually use the reverse back in factor of .85. I was once corrected by an engineer. You only want to have that happen once

I can't believe 9ff was brought up in the same sentence as the rest of the folks. Not even in the same league, and certainly not a company with integrity and honesty. I would not trust this person, and his products are a joke.
I'm darn sure that the warranty would not be honored.

Dock,
After you responded I had to go back to the EVO website. The Stage IV GT is advertised at 640 hp (flywheel). Their dyno sheets show 539 rwhp. Note this is bhp not SAE. If I multiply 539 times 1.19 I get 641. It seems like 19% is closer. You would also have to deduct approx. another 6 hp to arrive at SAE power. Is there something I am missing?
