For 700hp...bottom line, how much $$$?

Hello all. Still deciding on cars (I got till Spring to figure out which car I want). Whatever I get, I want it to be FAST for the streets. Now, on a 996TT manual, how much money does it take to get in the 700 crank horsepower range? I'm talking about parts, labor, and any supporting parts that are needed for this much hp. I've met a few people (some forum members) who have Protomotive 600 and 700 packages. Amazing machines...they were telling me its not hard to find used parts and that its a huge savings.

So bottom line, really whats the minimum amount I would have to spend to get a stock 996TT into the 700hp range? Street use with about 30-50 passes down the drag strip a year. More or less daily driven with about 10k miles put on a year.

I have some ideas such as k24/16 or k24/18's. I'd prefer to go to Protomotive since they are local and I've seen some excellent work done by them, but if there is a cheaper source with the same results then by all means I'd have no problems going there. How about N2O? Would that be an option? I'd like to do all of the mods at once to avoid extra labor charges or the continual process of swapping parts for more power.

Also, is there a huge price difference between 600, 650, 700, 750hp?

Thanks a lot guys, this will help me out very much when deciding what car I want. Theres a very good chance I'll be joing the P Turbo club soon . I highly appreciate it, take care.

You're going to do 2 things.

#1 You have to do the internals (rods and studs) unless you want to blow the motor. Consider (only) "30-50 dragstrip passes" that's the entire LIFE of some motors before they break. 10K miles a year is DOUBLE the average for P-Cars and on top of this you are looking for around 70% more power than stock? Do internals.

#2 Figure out how much boost you're going to try and run, and if you're truly going to drive it on the street a lot, you'd do well with a small-ish set of turbos vs. some of the magic you see in these threads. Better spooling and tractable power on the street with enough top end for occasional drag-races. The 10K miles annually (again) is HUGE mileage for what you described as a street-driven drag car with "only 50 passes per year" so I'd rather run a lot LESS boost and do the internals since you plan on flogging the car. Less likely you'll blow the motor and yet the boost can be low enough that the motor will "live" under the punishment you seem to plan doling out.

Internals + Lower boost setting on mid-sized turbos = huge fun without risk blowing the motor. With big power, everything happen a LOT faster. Blowing gears, synchros, brakes (stopping) and suspension (imagine that) plus all of the extra HEAT you're going to create. This is in a long list of $$$ so be ready for it, and have a blast.

Yup, I figured the internals would need to be strengthened for the extra boost...

So, anyone else?

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

If you don't have a 996TT yet, the least expensive way would probably be buy a car that already has the 700hp kit done. Get a used Evo GT700 or Proto 650/700, by spring '08 you would probably have quite a choice in cars. Where in Westchester are you? I work in W.P. Good luck, it will be a fun process...

With a built motor and the parts needed for 700 hp which include an upgraded clutch, new turbo's, fuel system, injectors, etc... You are looking at a minimum of $20,000 and that is doing some of the install yourself. I would say the range is from $20,000 to $45,000 depending on who you go with and if you install or they do.

I think vivid racing is probably going to give you a great deal since they have a new kit...

Vivid's Kit w/gt30's - 15000
carrillo rods- 2000
injectors - 500
exhaust - 2000
tune - 2000
clutch - 3000
install - 6000

I would say about 33k-38k and your good for some real power 650-800bhp range safely (power you can choose).

Such a margin depending on your motor build.

Brakes are a must if you use the power!

Good luck with your choices and try to find a shop more local if possible.
AWE, RPM on Long Island, Protosport.

Someone said buy one that is done, that is the best advise yet.

Buying a 99TT at this stage of the game and dumping 30-45k or whatever amount of dollars into it is just not smart with the current depreciation rate of these cars combined with mods you will do you will be deep in the hole for no reason. Buy a 997TT (somewhat base) and wait and do some external upgrades later and you will have a pretty fast car. I owned a 997TT for those who want to bash me and while this is a more civil car the power they develop stock is alot more then the 996, however the raw feel of the 996 does have its appeal!

WTF?.......Are you serious? The depreciation rate for a 997TT over the next 5 years will be 3-4X what the 996TT will be. Already, you see 997TTs trading for close to $100k.

Stock internals will handle 700 crank all day for years if properly tuned....but that is s far as you can safely go. Getting to 700 crank if done right will cost close to 30K unless you do much of the work yourself.

My car was over 30k for everything and is at 700 on pump gas. You could save money on the exhuast, however (although I love my EP).

I have a friend who have the Protomotive K24/20g full build... with lots of hours on it devoted by Todd Knighton of protomotive. This is the only one of it's kind. It put down 640 rwhp at 1.5 bars and and ran a 140 mph trap at the strip. The turbos alone were custom made and very special parts ment into them.... ( not just stock 20g compressor).
This car has not been beaten on the street yet in Tulsa by any street car.
The owner had 5 cars and is willing to sell it. I drove the car....
This is a very special car. I would buy if I didnt have one... and you dont have to wait 3 to 5 months for the build out either.
