The Racers Group sold Unichip!
Hi folks.
I was considering a Unichip as an option for getting more
power for my 996tt, because they (The Racers Group)
had done a good job tuning a 408ci stroker Mustang I
have, but I just found out they've sold the Unichip to
a place in Portland Oregon, and their tuner guy Tony
actually went up there as part of the deal! Oh well, maybe
it's good news for Portland...
If anyone is interested, the contact info is:
jack@unichip.us or 707-481-2355

Unichip is making a plug-in for the 996tt!
I belatedly called the contact number out of curiosity, and
found that they (Unichip guys) are in the process of moving
to Portland, and that they are in the prototype stages of a
no-need-for-a-dyno-tune pre-programed unichip module for
the 996tt, that simply clips in the standard ECU harness,
between the stock hip and the car, and will do 99% of what
a custom-tuned chip would do, raising the boost to .95, starting
it sooner in the RPM range, and richening the fuel where it is
needed.

The UNICHIP hardware (both the main control module and the turbo module) is made by a company called Dastek. The cost of both modules is about $600 (that's what a distributor told me). In any case, I would not hold my breath on the "plug and play" version... they have been saying that for about a year now. The $$ comes in with the tuning... there are a bunch out here in the East coast that charge about $3500 for the UNICHIP with installation and tuning (a nice $2900 profit for about half a day's work). The Racer's Group also sold the UNICHIP with their own programming to dealers who did not have an in-house dyno. This is the one I had in my car for quite some time.
Yes. The Uinchip can be used with any electronically
controlled car, programmed for that car. I have one
controlling my one-off 410 ci Mustang:

Traditionally a Unichip is installed and initially does
nothing. It is tuned during a dyno session to advance/
retard timing, increase or decrease fuel delivery, and
for turbos increase or lower boost etc. The new thing
here is that a pre-tuned chip will be plug-n-play
available specifically for the 996tt. You should contact
jack at unichip about what he can do for a 993. They
certainly did have good success with 993 turbos and
custom-tuned chips.
