It's possible. The stock turbo on the Evo 8 can ultimately flow enough for around 380 dynojet whp with all the bolt-ons plus cams, possibly even 400ish with (potentially undisclosed) race gas or meth/alchy injection.

See here for example:

http://buschurracing.com/stage4.htm

Then consider the Evo was supposedly 'lightened' so it could possibly be around 3000lbs (starts at 3300ish fully stock, depending on model and options). At 380whp (or more ...) and 3000lbs, it probably has a better power/weight ratio then a stock 996 turbo x50.

The crazy thing is that all of those mods on the evo probably only total around $4K in parts ... that's an exhaust on the Porsche

Of course all the x50 needs is a flash and it's a different story ...

So. Cal has many modified EVO's and I have yet to see one do that to me. I am not saying there are none faster, I just have yet to experience an EVO spanking.

I have both cars.
I ran a x50. mine was at 20 psi on pump gas making 391 awhp. we did 60 to 130shhh...
my car got out faster.... and I have a GT35R turbo. its stayed about 1 car ahead till we slowed down. The initial jump gave me the momentum.

Even an EVO IX with a reflash and turbo back exhaust will put down 340 to the wheels on our dyno. They are strong. I owned a VIII back in the day. Great cars.

I just bought a 996 tt (today actually ) because I missed having a Porsche.

I had an Evo about a year ago. With very little extra $ spent are seriously fast cars.

I own both and EVO and a 996TT as well.

The 996TT is more refined and tip in torque throughout the power band. However, I have a built 2.0 GT35R EVO with methanol and when you tip in the power band it is insane. It would demolish an X50 or a GT700 for that matter. Low 10s on pump and meth and high 9s on C16. I would only expect to see low 11s on pump in my chipped K24ed 996TT. My TT weighs around 3800 and my EVO weighs right around 3000 with the light weight mods......power to weight is major factor here, IMO.

I like both cars for what they are and do not confuse the intended market or breeding for/from which they were built.

I agree that one needs to dump 3 times the money in order to run similar times at the track in a TT. But you make it sound like its easy to high 9s in a Evo 8... it really is not...
But yes for minimal money yo can make that thing fly.

I don't intend to make it sound easy to run 9s in an EVO. I went through a block, a tranny, a differential and quite a few trials to get there. The car is protuned and I am sure you know how volitile the car can be at the ragged edge.

The EVO offers me pure savage speed that is violent.

The TT offers me refined speed, power, and reliability that I do not get with the EVO.

I love both cars for what they offer. The comparison was for the sake of the topic and not to say "this is better than that" or "with a few bucks you can".

Anyone who has owned an EVO knows how fun they are and how inexpensive modding can be to a point.

Like a TT once you cross the 700chp mark things get pricey. Likewise once you cross the 500chp mark in the EVO things get pricey although not as pricey as the TT but, that is understood due to the cars price point.

All this coming from a guy who does 90% of his own mechanic work and drives a 4wd Toyota truck to work daily. I had a Stage III S4 before that, and several other toys including many street bikes before that.

An open minded speed junkie doesn't care what the badge is on the hood or how many wheels it has just that it fulfills the need and feeds the addiction......................IMO.

Just wait for a turn and see what happens...... Who cares about straight line speed except for someone with a Jegg's stick which does add 10 horsepower.
