my stereo install (with pics)
the bose speakers are run bi-amped in the stock config. meaning the door is separate from the mid & tweeter. the door speakers were 2 ohm speakers. It is correct that you would have to buy a 2 ohm stable amp to be able to run those speakers, but that wouldn't worry me as they are very efficient speakers - meaning they won't draw that much power and place a huge burdeon on the amp.
Boris,
All I have left to complete my install is the L & R door speakers. How much time would you allow for these two speakers?
Any pitfalls to be aware of?
How did you get the interior door handle covering off without damaging it?

Looks great! The HK head unit looks stock! How much legroom did you lose on the passenger side and is it an issue?
I really want to improve the sound from the factory stereo, but I want to keep things looking stock, and think that my '05 setup will call for different changes than you suggested given the changes to the bus etc. (I know only enough to hurt myself) Can anyone recommend a great installer in LA who could help with this?

i did the door speakers and took my time with them. here is what i did:
1. painted a sound deadening paint on the inside of the door speaker (plastic) enclosures.
2. lined it with foam
3. in my case the drivers were just about an 1/8" larger than the stock ones, so i had to dremmel the hole out .
4. i used the stock wiring and make sure to use a multimeter before you connect & secure the speaker and you'll be able to determine the + / - polarity and where the wires come out on the amp connector.
that's all...
Brutish,
Here are two options:
I used board member Christian for Morel speakers and Rod Birch at http://www.caraudioinnovations.com/ for the amp, wiring and tech support. Rod is very nice to deal with and available full time for installation support, if you are doing it yourself. I bought the NAK online at WOOFERS ETC.
These guys are supposed to be good, too and they are in LA

The only thing i'd like to do is add Boris' head unit with NAV and be able to play MP3s WMAs. Boris, Any idea what that thing runs and if it is still available? I'm happy with the system otherwise...

yes you can still purchase them, but they have been discontinued products for sometime. Therefore you can only purchase them as refurbs with a 2year warranty.
You have two options. The one i bought or the Porsche one (with a porsche logo on it just like your current unit). I bought mine because it has a subwoofer out vs. the porsche one does not.
You can call Becker. Ask for Rob in Parts at 201 961 1309. He knows i just bought one and went through the entire purchase with him.
Cheers,
Boris

Good job guys. I always do my own installs. I changed out the deck to a AVIC Z1, built a 2 10inch sub enclosure with two 10 inch audio bahn subs, four sets of diamond audio mids and tweets with x overs, and jl audio 2 ways on dash. For amps I did a fostgate 1000a for the subs and a alpine 6 way amp for the rest. Its loud and hits hard. Almost forgot added a fared cap for wheh the bass hits
