That's what I was told today, Go check it out and see if it's true. My source seemed reliable.
The 996TT has two rev limiters (or perhaps more accurately settings) one for first gear and the second for the other gears. First is short enough that the rev limiter is actually set lower in that gear than on the rest.
It is possible to over rev the motor as has been stated earlier by putting the car into a lower gear at high wheel revs. This is indeed what the car mags reported at the Carerra GT introduction, a journalist dropped the car into a low gear at high speed and damaged the engine.
The damage that can result goes all the way from tangled valves and pistons to busted crankshafts and broken rods. Always fun to look at the internals of a motor that has let go to see just what metal at high speed is capable of doing!
As far as the repair is concerned I think that the computer will tell the tale. And if the hand grenade pin was pulled by the owner why shouldn't he have to put up with putting the shrapnel back together?

Hi Everyone:
Oweyea and I saw the CGT at Newport the other day. Beautiful black beast!
Don't know what is wrong with it mechanically...
Looks great...but so sad to see it on a rack.
