Track Insurance questions

Yup. I am sure most of you remember the CGT with two buddies in it that crashed and died.
Wives sued, Porsche, insurance companies, each other, and the track.
This and a couple other events caused some pretty sweeping changes in the insurance business. Now it seems that every time I go on the track, I here a lecture at the driver's meeting about how "exposed" we all are.
When you get on the track you need to understand that for the most part, even with "coverage", you are on your own. If you are new to this just go do it, keep it safe, don't push yourself, have fun, learn, and be cool.
As an added safety net, you might be selective in who you run with.
I really think that it is all about driver skill and maturity.

i would love to reserve a local seattle 6speed day. if we all got together, rented out the track for the day, etc. at least we have proven driving skills and have people with common sense. it would be fun and we wouldn't have to worry so much about who we are running with.

might be best to tag on to a PCA club event or other event.
Track rental is steep. Gets reasonable for me once the individual cost is in the $300 range. Which is about 45-80 cars.
Portland just got new pavement too! Mush safer place. The newer you are to this, the more that is a bonus. Events there, tend to be cheaper which helps offset the driving costs.
I run with some Porsche guys to Spokane once a year, those with High HP cars really like that course, as the front straight is one of the longest in North America and about as wide as a SEATAC runway.
I was doing 130 in the Lotus (it takes FOREVER to get to that speed) and I was passed like I was standing still by a 2003 Viper. Talked to him after, and he was a new driver so he was keeping it to 160. Be crazy to think what some of the guys here (right car and driver) could do. I was turning 1:55 or so, and the vipers were turning about 2:02. Totally different drivers though. Spokane is much cheaper than Pacific Raceways but the drive is a bit long. Great road trip though.

Dont think this would work. You'd have to explain the how the damage was caused. One big giveaway is the rubber on the edge of the tyres when you've been on a track and you can only get rid of it by putting lots of miles on the car. Of course you could change tyres/wheels before you towed it out but then lots of people might see you...
