Thanks Christian

I was referred to Christian by AirJordan for stereo components and advice. I purchased the Morel Elate series 3-way components for the front dash and doors with Morel 6" subs and completed the installation this weekend. They were combined with a 950W Audison LXR 6.9 amp, Hertz co-axial rear speakers and a Nakamichi CD400 head unit. The sound is awesome. Christian was very helpful and a pleasure to deal with - just thought I would pass the contact along for anyone that may be considering a stereo upgrade.

great to deal with. great prices. had some "warranty" issues to deal with and he took care of these things "after" the sale which is where some people have problems following up.

I made a photo album of the install. The amp and crossovers are set up with multi-pin disconnects so that they can be quickly unplugged and removed for track days and weight reduction. This system is approximately 12-15 lbs. over the stock system. With the amp and crossovers removed - the car should weigh about the same as stock.

Here is the link to the install photos - I still have to add a few completed pictures: http://gallery.rennlist.com/gallery/stereo-install

Hey John, Let me ask you something how much better does the sub sound now?
Just curious, I have a 12" in an box behind the drivers seat, I am trying to loose some weight out of the car and hoping the Bose sub box with new drivers sound and hits pretty good.

Stevo..thanks, it was a lot of fun and a lot of work, but I got to know the inner workings of the stereo system, door panels, dash, etc. a lot better by doing it.

klrgt,

There is no comparison - it is so much better, it is not even close. I have a separate subwoofer control (and separate 5th channel with the amp) on the NAK and it goes from -10 thru +10. As you pass 0, the bass gets progressively more predominant. At +3 it begins to get pretty strong. On +10 with the volume cranked up, it shakes my entire house if parked in the garage and I have a good sized house...Personally, I do not like a lot of bass, but it's there if you want it. Also, no rattles at all, just loud, tight sound. Some thought the factory sub would rattle with powerful subs in it, but that is not the case. It's pretty well designed with a heavy rubber seal all around it (clamshell design) and screws every 6" around the perimeter. All factory grills remain at all speaker locations and you can not tell there is a complete stereo in the car. The only telltale sign is the head unit, which is actually very factory looking with OEM colored LED's.

Another world class job John !!. Thanks for posting the photos, that will certainly help me with my install. Did you put your Brockway 920 DIN back in? And if not, I am looking for one, as they are out of stock and discontinued. PM me if you are selling.

Way to go !!

Zuma,

Brockway is coming out with a new design in a few months and I will be testing a pre-production model soon. Once I have the new unit, I will be selling my existing unit. However, I need it in the meantime, as I have another project I just began, which will require it's use at the end....A day after finishing up the stereo, I began the installation of the Protomotive intake system - dual cone air filters (one for each turbo) and associated plumbing to the turbo intake, then all boost plumbing from the turbo to the IC and on to the throttle body, including a new Y-Pipe.

Winter in the Northeast is good for these type of projects - I don't feel I'm missing much with 3' of snow on the ground

Hi Boris,

Thanks. Yea, I am very happy with it, but the car is in for the winter, so I have not had a great deal of time to enjoy it yet.

I did not use any sound deadening material - I simply replaced the existing speakers with the upgraded ones. What effect does sound deadening material have on the overall sound?

John,

There are two types of sound deadening that i used:

1. The mass loader: i used a paint type of solution as i am weight sensitive on cars and this is a low cost and light weight solution. IMHO it's a large benefit to the stock bose box as they are made with lightweight plastic. Plastic is hardly acoustically friendly for any type of enclosure. There is a reason that most speaker boxes are made from MDF. The density of the wood is improtant and applying a sound deadening solution would be very benefecial in that it will give you a tighter, more controlled and far more accurate bass.

2. The other side for high frequencies is when more noise is absorbed by the sound deadening the less it effects the diaphragm of your speaker cone. Specifically a midrange driver or midbass driver that could suffer from the resonance of ambient noises in the vehicle. Again the same result but for this frequency range i would describe it as accuracy, precision and clarity.

I used a product called eDead v3 for the bass mass loader and eDead TEKLite for the #2 description above.

It is a very inexpensive prodcut and very easy to use....

Cheers,
Boris
