CPO Warranty Worth It?

When looking for an 02-04 with moderate mileage say around 25,000 how important do you all think it is to pay extra for a CPO car and how much extra would one expect to pay? I see 02s with that kind of mileage with CPO from $60,000. to $70,000. Without CPO they can be quite a bit less expensive.

Get a car with CPO. You'll sleep better at night at least for the first two years.

The car I'm selling is a CPO. If the buyer is going to mod the hell out of it then I wouldn't suggest buying one with warranty, because in my opinion there is a some premuim to a CPO car and it would be a waste. I bought a CPO because I didn't want to worry about replacing $8,000 transmissions, etc.

It covers all the major mechanics, intake, exhaust, suspension excluding any wear parts. It does not cover the audio or Nav system, but that just gives you a good excuse to replace them. There is a summary on the PCNA website.

If the difference in the same car with a CPO versus without is $4k or less, then it is worth it.

If the difference is $10k (ie what dealers think their CPOs are worth) then get an aftermarket warranty.

Remember, Porsche will do their best to deny warranty coverage under the CPO for ANY sign of 'abuse': over revs, etc.

I am unimpressed with the porsche CPO process if you drive hard or do any mods.

I bought an 02 X50 for $67K with 18K on the clock and a CPO included. I've used the CPO for the first time today. I'm sold on it after one incident. CPO's are subject to negotiation as they have no real fixed value....just that they do have value and can be (and are) used to increase the sale price. Just how much they're worth is up to what the market will bear and how good you are at negotiating.

ARD is quite correct though...if you plan on doing heavy modding or racing...you may be wasting money on CPO becasue there are a lot of reasons the dealer or PCNA can use to void the warranty....and since voiding a warranty saves them money..you can bet that any excuse can and will be used. For example...My problem was covered by the CPO until they got to the Diverter Valves that were aftermarket. I was charged for the work required to fix a leak in the F hose that was causing an overboost condition. The factory spring-type hose clamp didn't seal the aftermarket DV properly...even though the clamp was a Porsche factory clamp....but the DV was aftermarket. They installed a screw type hose clamp and charged me $140 for the work. I'm not going to grouse about it becasue the other work covered by the CPO was expensive. So is a CPO worth it? The mental security for some is....others consider it unnecessary.

i think if you selling the car before cpo is over, it's worth it. othrwise go with an after market warranty.

it will help resale.

OK all good thoughts. I have read that the aftermarket warranties sometimes are easier to deal with. How much does a typical aftermarket warranty cost as this would also help in establishing the added cost of CPO? Also, how difficult is it to buy one for a 2001-2003 TT?

I have used both EasyCare and Prism aftermarket warranties. They are both reasonable and easy to work with; most dealers accept them with no issues. I currently have Prism on my 01 and I am completely satisfied with their service. Good Luck!

Got my car in April of '07 with brand new CPO warranty. I would NOT buy a TT without CPO. The CPO has already paid for itself.

I think since it has a lot left on the warranty, I think I could get $60k vs about $55k (without CPO) in the open-market. My car has 25k miles.

I don't feel that it's worth it as I never used mine and it does not cover what you think it will (depending on the dealer). IMHO you are better off saving the money and using IF something breaks but these cars are tanks and very little if anything is subject to breaking for those model years and what can break will not be covered by the CPO.

Don't waste your money. Apply that to mods and improvements and you will be better off. I wish I didn't waste the money...
