gt3 vs. TT 996
gt3 vs. TT 996
Being in the market to buy a TT, i am bumping into occasional the GT3 for sale. My last porsche was a 993 C2S heavily modded. I loved that car so much until i made the mistake of driving my buddies 993TT. Since then, I have been dreaming about a TT in the garage. I don't want to spend the $$$ for the 993 TT and frankly I have really taken a liking to the 996TT for many reasons. But I must admit there are a few really cool looking GT3's here on 6speed that are very tempting. Is there a huge performance difference? Sounds like a stupid question but why would someone go for a GT3 instead of a TT for the same price?
I assume you are talking 996 Gt3s?
either way, i would think that decision would come down to track time for me. If i was going to be spending a lot of time tracking the car, i would probably go GT3...if i am actually using the car as a driver of some variety, then i would go TT....oh wait, thats right i did already :-)

depends what you want...if your a torque guy, there is no question the 996tt is what you want...its got tons and tons of torque and it all comes out to play early...if you want a car that focuses on linearity of both power and grip curves, then the GT3 is what you want...if you want both, pony up for a 996 gt2...haha
Well thats an interesting question, I guess it depends on what you really want the car for,Street or track. I have a TT and went with that over the GT3 because of the limitless motor mods. Now if your a track guy , I think the GT3 is the car.The TT can be a great track car, I believe the GT3 is better.I have a feeling you will be leaning to wards a TT, If you can drive both and see which one you prefer.I feel the TT is very smooth a very linear power, where as the GT3 is a much more raw car, it will drive more like your 993.Both great cars but both very different.I am glad to see a 993 guy come over to the dark side MUHAHAHAHHAHA.You will not regret either car.
thanks guys. i am not planning on necessarily tracking the car though i am not opposed to it. who knows. may i would love it. but it won't be a daily drive either. but i do like to drive aggressively. and with my c2s, everyone wanted to race me at every light. so i gotta come prepared! luis, that car rocks.

Get the Turbo, and don't look back!

If you dont track at all, then turbo is for you as it has more power and comfort.
This is unless you are absolutely in love with a quick, high revving naturally aspirated
feel. Turbo buyers and GT3 buyers are typically a different group entirely.

went through a similar process when upgrading from my 993. I absolutely love the GT3, and was set to pick one up. The swinging factor for me was the ability (limited) to carry the kids in the back seat. With that being said, I love the Turbo and have no regrets.
I just couldnt deal with the power limits of the GT3, if you are going to start tracking I would actually advise for you to get the TT anyways.
The GT3 has:
No Traction control or PSM
and I'm a little apprehensive about pushing one myself even with lots of track time. The TT is much safer for a beginner, it wont be until you really learn to start pushing the car that the TT's deficiencies will stand out, and then you can do some simple mods to fix that, or trade it for a GT3 in a couple of years.
But for the occasional street race, you'll get pwned in the GT3 by many many cars, especially if you cant shift like lightning.

I've always been fascinated by old school Porsches (cars that makes Porsche a Porsche), the unmolested motoring experience, and no other modern 911 delivers that better than GT3s. That car gives a driver a lot more than a feeling of horsepower and a torque.
My car does suck on the traffic or a bumpy roads tho.

As I said I have a feeling you will end up in a TT. Cant go wrong with that!
i am in the same boat...... wanting to look for that GT3 NA feel, but not really a track person...... so i think i am leaning towards the TT....... Now is a 997 S variant a better deal then an 01 or 02 Turbo?????
Doc,
It depends on your definition of "better deal." Are you speaking strickly in financial terms? Like others have posted, the determining factor will be how you plan to use it and what your long term plans are.
