lwfw.... any issues ?

hey guys w/ lwfw

do you have any issues with the car stalling while at idle with the a/c on ?

is the sound of the lwfw annoying at idle ?
do you feel a big difference in revving ?

thanks

Yes, it rattles with or without A/C. To me, that is not a big issue because my car happens to be loud.
Yes, it grabs more and it feels like it revs faster.
Yes, sometimes it stalls in 1st gear. But it gets better after +/- 200 miles. Either I learned to let go the clutch or it became a bit forgiving.
Do I regret the LWFW ? Yes, because I don't track the car. It's a street car for me. Someday I'll look into changing to a normal GT3 FW or something.

we've had some pretty long discussions in the past - try a search for a lot more info.

my experiences:
- noise is nothing like other cars w/ LWFWs
- yes, it does get nosier w/ AC on
- yes, it can stall but you can fix this w/ the proper programming
- yes, it sounds like a motorcycle w/ how quick it revs

Steve as I mentioned so many time, it all depends on your setup! I swear by it, my gt2 had a lwfw clutch setup when we went out in manhattan, remember the ac was on too? Stock idle and noise too, RUF's setup is amazing ! MariusL just got it on his gt2 and took my advice, he couldn't e happier!

had the lwfw in the 996 for about a month now. umm....no air conditioning issues yet! no need to turn it on. i think our record high was 49 this month! lol! i guess we'll see this summer! as far as having the A/C on with defrost....no issues.

yes...it's a bit louder at idle and low rpm's. but, you get used to it and it's very worth the little bit of extra chatter. to those that don't know what one is...when they sit in the car they have asked why the 996 sounds different than my 986 when sitting at an idle. other than that.....we love it!

look how pretty it is! a friend took these pictures of our lwfw before installation. i figured i'd never get to see what my money bought! but here it is!

The biggest..no only problem I have found is stalling. Importantly NOT when starting out but rather.... say pulling into a parking lot a low speed in 2nd gear.

Last week I did this, pushed in the clutch and hit the brake to make the turn into the lot and the car stalled. This was not pretty as a median was quickly approaching my Champion rims. Not to mention the truck whose lane I was veering into. At 15 mph coasting with no power steering gets your attention quickly!

Yes, the car can and will stall at low speeds when doing nothing more than pushing in the clutch pedal. It will be more frequent if you blip the gas first obviously.

Kevin [UMW] told me his ecu tune has a patch for it but he will not send the patch separately from a full blown remap, which I do not need......so I just need to be aware of it and be careful.

I have not had the stalling....but the other day I was double clutching and ran into a speed trap...just coasted through..almost stalled...had to give it gas and try to NOT make it sound like I was revving as I was on the edge of the magic 8mph cushion....non trivial given the stress...

I am sure I could force a stall....but I just avoid such things via avoiding just simple clutching.

I must agree fully with Chuck...I have the UMW package and Kevin did "adjust" the tune..no stalling. The noise does not occur at all with the clutch engaged.

In terms of drivability with higher hp it is a no-brainer!

off idle dieing has been a problem with the lwfw and some programs. for some reason quite a few have mentioned this, doesn't seem acceptable to me. I hate stalling out.
