So Which do I Pick.. 996 TT , Nissan GTR?

I always wanted a Porsche 911..

The 996 TT is in my range but heres the deal

Its heavy, handles only ok, AWD doesnt even have a rear diff, expensive as hell to modify, boring interior,

The new GTR, is not nearly as nice looking or classy but..
Its Heavy and Handles, AWD has Diffs everywhere, cheap to modify in comparison, very integrated interior.

Sure driving down the street ill feel like king in the 996, but driving my heart out on backroads and track events ill be king in the GTR

Ahh 50/50

Keep in mind the GTR will probably command a hefty premium at the beginning and in that case I'd rather take a newer, used (modded?) 996TT for the same kinda coin.

Tough choice (but good problem)

Tough choice, but nice to have that problem

The porsche TT, Ive had mine for awhile and I love it! Always a joy to ride, and yes the interior is so boring, seems like I am sitting in my living room when I sit in it. The interior will be to my liking in the GTR for sure, I have a 350z and the interior outclasses and out performs the porsche for sure in both stock configurations.

I was planning on canning the Porsche and Nissan 350z and get me the GTR, but like the other post says, we will see what the premium price will be. If it's not stupid ridiculous then we will see, but what I see what other dealers do with premiums for other cars, it probably won't be even close to MSRP.

I would also look at the 1st year model recalls that will probably occur allot on this vehicle I'm sure. I bought my wife a 1st year Nissan Murano and had like over 20 recalls on it in the first few years, and yes I didn't get extended warranty and ended up paying to fix it for poor design issues on it! By virtue of that I probably would get extended warranty, if I don't plan on modding the GTR.

Tough decision...I think you might even be able to pick up a 996 GT2 for the price the GTR might be going for? (MAYBE) I've seen some in the 90k range. Im not sure how much the mark-up on the GTR will be though..

I'd have to argue that the TT is a great handling car...especially when you put aftermarket suspension and sway bars (very low cost upgrade considering the performance gain)

AND at the end of the day...the GTR is still a Nissan (now if you were able to afford both...then more power to you) but if one or the other, sounds like a no brainer to me.

TT for me, granted the new GTR looks great and I have driven both stock and heavily modded R32, R33 and R34 and all I can say is that, the Porsche still delivers for me.

I can understand your dilemma because I think you are right; they are two different cars and basically have somewhat different appeals. You have to decide what you want. The 996tt is IMHO a rather elegant, refined european GT. The GT-R looks kind of crude and it is understandable: it costs half as much which generally puts it into a whole different realm of refinement. Can't speak for the handling other than the articles I have read-which are often more blushing right when a car is first released. In the end, the only cars over the years that get 5 stars from Autocar (UK magazine I generally respect) are 911's- in all forms, and a Ferrari here and there. I know of no Great driver (not a category I belong to) that doesn't think 996tt's handle beautifully. If you plan on modding the GT-R, I suggest you wait until the warranty runs out- which means waiting 4 years or so. I also think you are wrong about not feeling like a king in the GT-R- at least during the first year. I think you will get a lot of attention which is why the premium will be high.

Pick a color and write a check- that's what I usually do when I fall in love with a car (and have researched it). If I don't love it later or fall in love with another- I get a divorce.

At these prices and levels of complexity..first year cars will be an issue....there are so many electronics in the GT-r that it may be a challenge to tune/repair. I have heard/read that Nissan plans to really lock the ecu down tight....making the 997tt code look tame. I think the link was on this forum. I cannot provide it for you.

Good luck. Both awesome cars....

Epic car, or 2008 flavor of the year?

I wouldn't believe half of the crap spewing out of the car rags about this car.

To me it really just depends on whether you're the kind of guy that loves to have the newest car out on the market before everyone else has it. If so, then I'd seriously consider the GTR.

If it's not that big of a deal to you to have the newest thing, then I think you should get the 996TT now and enjoy it for a few years. Then when you get bored of it, go pick up a used GTR for $20K-$30K less than what you'd be paying for one right now.
