I concider this one of the greatest inventions after men walked first time on the moon
I must say I have the 997GT3 shift kit so for you guys with the OEM 996 shift kit it's a little bit different but not impossible to do.
My shiftknob is also attached to the metal bar with a screw, this was also oem.
I cut away 1 inch,at the first picture you can see how much lower it is now (white arrow was oem hight)

The second picture you can see the part I cut away from the top of the metal bar(1inch=2.5cm)

The 3de picture (drawn by a architect) you can see you also have to cut away a little bit at the bottom of the metal bar so the shiftknob can go down 1 inch more..

Didn't drive it yet but I love it already (it's raining in Belgium at the moment)

Love the interior...

Any pics of the car?

I am still waiting for my 997 GT3 Shift Kit to arrive.

After seeing your modification, I might have to do the same thing.

That car is off the chain! Nicest car on 6speed!

Is that Slate Grey or Seal Grey?

And what kind of wheels are those? They are hot!

One question... If the airbag goes off, does that metal emblem get embedded in your skull?

Dixie love your creativeness and yes your car looks great.
how would this mod be viewed by me track guy. worried about the additional loss of leverage in an already mechancially compromised shifting situation with the shorter throw.
also moving the height of the shifter further from where your hand is on the steering wheel leads to added shifting time not less.
this is exactly opposite of the Cups shifter where they actually have the shift **** elevated so it is closer to where your hand position on the steering wheel for less travel distance and faster shifting. those little movements in an enduro race add up lap after lap.
I admire your work and your car is beautiful, that's just not particularly for me.

will leave it like you see below..........

To mr seal grey matte: when my airbag explodes I have a free porsche tattoo on my face
For quick shifting I suppose a longer shiftknob is better but I had a shortshifter before and I believe it's also not good for faster shifting but most important to me I like the way how the short shiftknob looks...
