997S vs. 996TT

After trying to figure out what I want I think I am going to get the 997S. My only concern is after owning my 996 TT I worry the power of the 997S will disappoint me.

According to Porsche the 997S 0-62 is 4.6
996TT 0-62 is 4.2

Is that .4 second going to be noticable? Keep in mind my Turbo was stock and I was happy with the performance.

Opinions or thoughts guys?

do not worry about 0-60 times. porsche is complete b.s. most magazines tested the turbo from 3.7 all the way to 3.9. Porsche says its 4.2 THe 997S prob will be 4.0 flat, but not likely due to all those damn electronics

Torque will be an issue. I agree, after driving the TT it is very tough to go back...

How about the new Aston Martin AMV8 Vantage??? It will have a 4.3 L V8 engine, will be launched in 2005, and looks very very pretty IMO. Will be priced similiar to the 997S..

If that car will be in the states in 2005 and priced around what a 997S is then I'm in!!! However I can not imagine that will be under $100,000

I heard AMV8 price is right around the 100K mark not less...IMO it looks a lot better than the DB9

That is a pretty good price. I will look into the launch date of the AMV8.

I wouldn't worry about 0-60 times...they are so marketed out in magazines its hard to buy the figures.

I think you are going to notice the most difference in torque and HP. Going from the sling shot, shot out of gun feeling of the turbo to a NA engine is a world of difference in my opinion. I think you might find yourself disappointed. Just my $0.02.

Not to mention the switch back to the M96 block. That alone would keep me away from any 997 C2 or S.

The torque will be missed, but the suspension will be great from what I hear.

Personally, I'd way rather have the 996TT because long term durability matters to me, and the M96 is suspect for long term.

If 997's have RMS issues....OMG.... hehe

Keep in mind that the Porsche performance numbers are conservative.
