We had to wait for custom adapters to be machined so that we could connect the 997 RSR centerlocks installed on the car to the dyno. I expect it to be tested in the next several days. I am told to expect about 890 RWHP at about 1.1 to 1.2 bar!!!! This engine is definitely a monster, plus it will have great durability at 1.1 or 1.2 bar. I will keep you informed.
Based on the information provided I have no doubt 890 rwhp is obtainable. I do have a doubt regarding the 890 rwhp @ 1.1 to 1.2 bar. I believe 1.3 to 1.4 based on a 3.8L displacement may be the likely required boost. Then again, if anyone can pull a rabbit out of a hat it is Loren.

I would like to thank you for spending the time and money required to push the envelope as you have done with your project. As a result of your efforts, especially in the handling department, we have purchased from ERP some parts to be incorporated in our project in the near future.

I do have a question ...... I may have missed something, but it appears the charged air intercooler is the air cooled type. If so, based on your achievable power levels, why were water cooled intercooler(s) not utilized? Won't the heat sink over a short period of time rob the motor of much of it's real power potential? What charged air temperature delta do you expect to achieve after the first few minutes of operation at let's say an 80 degree ambient temperature?

Are you at liberty to disclose your piston size utilized? I understand the crank is a 76.4 mm. If you wish not to disclose this information, I understand.

Again, thanks for sharing many of the details of this spectacular project.

I will get you the info as soon as I can. The car will be dynoed this week if the MoTec guys can fix a couple of glitches. As you may know, this engine is a version of Loren's race motor. He and I have come up with some changes for the better. For instance, we are using a Titan Motorsports modified Tilton carbon clutch pack that Loren thinks will work very well. We also installed dual oil coolers in the stock intercooler locations which Loren believes will help immensely. The intercooler is a custom interior application that Loren fit to the car. I had a custom aluminum roof and hood scoop made for the car to feed air to the intercooler. I will get you the HP and Bar specs as well as charge air temps as soon as Loren gives them to me. I know the piston is a custom design by Loren that is made for him by Mahle. It is apparently configured after a F1 piston that Loren has used as a prototype. I do not know the exact specs. Loren is a little quiet about that stuff, as he probably should be. I am happy to share with you what I know.

I understand what you are going through. I've ben working on mine since February 2004. I'm very familiar with the Tilton clutch. I'm assuming it is the three disc version, however the diameters and plate pressure can vary. Great choice of clutch.

Your intercoolers and system is a spectacular air to air design. You might mention to Loren that Swain Coatings has a great heat dispersant coating for any intercooler that squeezes out another 5-7% on the efficiency side. Then again he may have already done that.

It is always harder to get heat out of the system than it is to keep it from entering. We found that by ceramic coating, with Swain gold coat, the piston domes, combustion chambers and exhaust ports, together with applying heat dispersant coating to the intakes that our head temperatures ran about 800 degrees cooler.

My piston question wasn't related to the design. I wouldn't expect that information to be broadcasted. I believe I know the flow numbers of the heads you are using. I was looking for the width of the pistons so as to determine the engine displacement. Having the flow and displacement numbers makes determining power at what bar a simple math excercise.

I have since spoken with Cary and he confirmed that Loren's race motors are producing the approximate power at the bar you were quoting. I guess my question is the true displacement being utilized. As a comparison, our motor is a 4.477L or a 82.4 mm stroke with 107.4 mm pistons.

Thanks, I do appreciate your sharing of information.

What is the running $$$$$ on this car, wasn't it at mid 400's this time last year?

This is one insane build, identity crisis looming as to how fast you drive a car you spent several years building and put in half a mil on.

I am not really sure at this point. It is certainly close to a half, but one day I will add it up and really know. Probably after the recession is over!!

The car just went back to the body shop for the final work, then off to the interior guy. At that point, Loren gets it back for one or two weeks to reinstall the motor and perform final tuning efforts. I think we are going to spend a couple of days at Willow Springs when we do that. I believe that Excellence Magazine wants to eventually feature the car, so I will ask them if they want to visit Willow when it is being tested. I will not even guess anymore when this car will be complete. It will be done when it is done. But it is close.

Sorry if I missed it but did you post a corner scale total weight? I'd like to add it to the thread.

Also, what are your plans with the interior? Just plain carpet to save weight?

Loren will check the weight when we finish the car. Please note that I have not built this as light as it could be. There are certainly very trick parts/assemblies throughout the car, i.e. the RSR electric steering that replaces the stock pump and associated plumbing. But, the interior will be street friendly. It will be set-up much like the original GT2 which saved some weight in its own right.

Remember that I have to deal with the internal portion of the intercooler scoop coming thru the roof and the rear deck that surrounds the intercooler assembly at the rear of the interior. When the car is turned off, the roof scoop acts like a chimney allowing all of the heat to rise up thru the plenum. We are going to need some level of insulating material that will be encased probably in a carbon fiber shroud. Not sure how that is going to work yet, but I am sure it will be something effective. Another yet to come solution before we finish the car.

Wow, with almost a half mil into the car, I can't help but wonder why not just buy a 962 street car. But seriously, this is one amazing vehicle. I can't wait until it's completed. Thanks to projects like yours, technology is pushed forward and will benefit the rest of us at hopefully a much less expensive sacrifice. But I guess that's the price of being a trail blazer.

dont mean to ask such picky questions or dont know if it has been covered already but, as for the roof scoop, is there something in place that you would be able to drive in the rain... or, a little bit of water on the engine is a no issue.... just curious.

Awesome thread! cant wait to see this monster.... also, give us a heads up when Excellence has you covered...

I suppose that sometimes the fun is in the pursuit. You cannot argue that this car is not unique!
