Slipping alternator belt?

Anyone have a problem with belts squeeking after the car has been washed or sitting in the rain?

I get occasional belt squeal after washing the GT3. However, no where near as often as I did with the C2. Either situation, the noise is very short lived.

Britt, after that downpour at the dealer that our cars were sitting out in I had squeaking when I first started my car.. It went away and never returned.

Ive had this happen before after a wash, but it slipped so much that the alternator warning light came on. It stopped slipping fairly quickly but I had to shut it down to erase the warning.

Max:

If you want to avoid that when washing the car and prevent water from getting inside the engine compartment...duct tape the intake holes and the gap at the top and sides of the engine lid. Keeps the water out and you wont get the alternator wet, belts wet or have annoying water spots in there....

What you will find that is if the system is a little down on juice the belt will slip due to the draw on the alternator. the more draw the more resistance. The belt is self tensioning and this is the normal course. That is why often the cars will do it leaving the dealership. They jump it enough to give the car a start, but not a full charge. If they get really wet of course they will do it. Under normal conditions this is the cause.
