AWD and RWD % Difference

When dynoing a car what is the drive loss in RWD and AWD?

I am under the impression its 18% on AWD and 15% on RWD. But is there on a 3% difference between the two

It's probably closer to 5%. App. 18% for a manual and around 23% for a tip (assuming AWD).

Tip is over 25% from the testing we have done... and 6 speed is pretty close to 23%.

This is what we came up with after dyno'ing multiple stock cars and comparing with factory rated hp figures.

What dyno are you using and what whp numbers are you getting on stock cars?

If you're only getting 320 awhp out of stock 6-speed cars (23% loss), that's an extremely low reading dyno.

We have a Mustang AWD-500 SE.

Stock 6speed cars dyno 320-330 on your dyno.

Did anyone else read the article in panorama about the tiptronic S transmission. It appears that the auto cars don't use a dual mass flywheel and actually share the same 1,2,3 ratio's but split the rest over only 2 more instead of three more like the six speed. I do think with stock power that extra split probably helps the six speed cars from 100 on but at modded power levels the car does not seem to care about the wider top end ratios. I think 6 speed and tip cars once modded are not too far apart in the real world. May not be as involving but the power/speed is probably not that much different. They also mentioned in the article that they rarely seem to break. I thought this was an interesting article. If you have not read it, it is worth the 15 minutes to do so. Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Back to your original question: I have heard several different numbers for % loss for AWD vs. RWD. Most prevalent numbers seem to be 18% and 12%. I have never seen a post from someone who had engine dyno pulls and then chassis dyno pulls. That would be interesting to know if someone knew how to compare and factor the 2 dynos. That would be the challenging part.

What kind of AWHP/AWTQ do I make since the shop that did my motor disconnected the front diff when my car was last dynoed?

Check with Kito Autosport in Ballard, WA who has an AWD Mustang. You can safely assume a 20% loss. Everyone has their special number to tell you what they're making @ the crank but as you are well aware, an incredible number of factors come into play with your results at this extreme level of tune.

They do regular dyno-days there and you'd probably win (there are competitions) hands down. Get more miles on the BLACK BEAST for break in and see what she does AWHP/AWTQ.

Ok, I have now tried AWD and RWD difference in quarter mile -

RWD=195km/h (121mph)
AWD=189km/h (117mph)
Both runs without NOS.
Measured with 5hz GPS in same place and almoust same weather conditions.

When I put speeds into weigh-trap speed-HP calculator I get rwd 490hp and awd 455hp
It's about 7% difference
