Engine still ok after 100k Mi ????
Engine still ok after 100k Mi ????
Fortunately of unfortunately, i just got the ''modding'' bug, My 996tt has been my daily driver for some time now, and has always been meticulously maintained... Before storing it this winter (canada) It registerd 160K km,
I wan't to get more out of it now, so before going crazy I sent it to my OPC to get ''checked!'' if anyone would make a pleasure saying that it was time to rebuild, it would of been them (trust me). We were all surprised! here are the compression/leakdown results CYL#1, (225/6%), CYL#2 (230/4%), CYL#3 ( 230/4%), CYL#4 (230/6%), CYL#5 (235/4%), CYL#6 (225/6%).......
Good news, Now for the big question, is this engine a ''bad candidate'' for mods cause of the mileage, even if the specs are good???
I want to go with K24's, exhaust, DV's, ecu tune, v-flow...etc for a potential +/- 600hp
All your input and advice is appreciated,
Thanks
Paul...

Your fine... especially since the leak down and compression test checked out.

These figures are excellent, I recently done mine and they were also 4/5% (50k miles now), as long as you are regularly changing oil, (would do more often after mods) and run decent fuel I can see you having years more fun with your car.
100K miles with mods
That is so cool and makes me even more proud to own a 996TT.
It is so insuring to know our cars are so well built with good materials.
I have had my car for 2+ years and drive like it is built to drive.
With 0 mechanical problems 10,000+ miles with GT640 kit. Luv IT!
Good Luck on your mods and keep us informed.

+1 We have some great motors, ones that can take lots of power mods and act like they were built that way. I cant think of another car that takes to mods so effortlessly. Certainly not Corvettes.

None of us should be suprised by this and actually we should expect it. Look back at all the air cooled motors out there still running with 2 and 3 hundred K miles on the clock. Those motors run hot, and in southern climates, they can run very hot. I would not worry at all about owning or buying one of these cars with lots of miles. Proper maintanence is always key.
Hot Damn....it's so *****in (that sort of dates me doesn't it?) to see someone posting high mileage with compression and leakdown figures like that.....a testament to what we can expect out of these cars in the future.
I don't want to aggravate the folks on the 996 board....but when I had my 99 996, I was constantly on edge about whether it was going to have either an intermix problem, RMS failure, or the intermediate shaft blow out. Although I realize that there are a lot of them out there and we only hear about the complaints.....I am so much more confident owning the TT....plus it's so amenable to a flash or other mods that it's rewarding to know that if I want to put a little more performance in it.....I can do it relatively cheaply, and it will handle the upgrade easily with the existing intrernals up to a point.
Again, folks from the 996 board please do not take this as an indictment of the 996 3.4 Litre cars....just a personal opinion about ownership of one over the other. Suffice it to say I'm happier here.

I must admit now that everything checks out, I'm changing the turbo's (prevention) going to be going with a k16/16g setup, but to answer your question, I do the 1min+ cool down religously, My freinds and now ex wife thought I was annoying with it, but they just don't understand....lolll!
corvettes take to mods very easily
There are a few LS motors out there modded above 200K miles. That said, I can think of more then a few cars that take to mods as easily if not easier.I'm not knocking the 996TT in anyway, just the odd statement. In this day of age 100K shouldn't have much wear on a motor. 100K cars have been around for a VERY VERY long time.
Kudos though Dpaulo, now get that car some power
