I had the factory sports exhaust on my '02 Carrera and loved it. Why can't the factory offer a similar option for the turbo?

Porsche doesn't offer a sports exhaust for the Turbo because it would make the Turbo sound like a sports car, and that would upset the core "GT" buyers out there.

Knowing Porsche, what do you guys think a Turbo sport exhaust option would cost, probably $7500?

they have to adhere to really strict EPA standards...you're much better off with an aftermarket exhaust

If this is true, how can they offer the sports exhaust on the NA 996s and boxsters?

that sport exhaust adheres to the standards. Just because it is called "sport" does not mean it is truly that open. I guarantee it is more restrictive than many available aftermarket units

I see what you mean.

They do sound great, however.

i think the reason is resonance. every aftermarket exhausts do resonant in some way, small or big. the only way to solve the problem is switch to the one u can handle. however, if OEM exhaust resonant that'll become a warranty issue. bet Porsche doesn't want to deal with that!

If they built one with a less restrictive catalyst they would have to re-do the emission testing.

Reg 996s have exhausts that are cat back . Turbos have main cats ( of the two per side ) inside the muffler cans. I'm sure emissions certification has something to do with the lack of factory Turbo sport exhaust , as Porsche is always looking for easy option profits.
