Turbo left me stranded, thoughts????

Hey guys,

Last night was the first time I had the car out in over a month. It has been on a Porsche battery maintainer all winter. I had it out and it drove fine for about 30 miles. Then, after getting back in from a bar, I was driving for about 5 minutes when the car lost all power. Within 30 seconds all the dash lights came on and the car died. I waited 30 seconds and it started right back up, but did the same thing a few minutes later. This happened 3 times, and then finally it wouldn't start after the 3rd time.

The car only has 12,000 miles on it, had a service before the winter and has never given me a problem in the past. I have no clue what it could be. The only thought that came to mind was that a rodent chewed on some wires over the last month and something was damaged?

Has this happened to anyone else? The car was towed to the dealership this morning and the service dept isn't open until Monday, so I won't hear anything until then.

Any help would be appreciated.

This might seem like a stupid suggestion, but did you check to make such the battery terminals were on tight? Also is the ground from the battery to the chassis on tight?

Sounds like your alternator if the wiring "kilrgt" suggests, checks out and the belt is ok. Wait to you see how much the dealer charges for that! ($700 for the part if IRC)

The car is at the dealer now, and because it was almost 3am, and I was on the side of a main road, I didn't even look for anything, I just call AAA. And if its the alternator, it sounds like it will be another wonderful overcharge at the stealership!

Maybe your car is just getting back at you for not driving her for almost a month.

i like the battery terminals are disconnected; i hope that's what it is. that's happened to me before; it's a b**** since the trunk is electric. i was pulling into my garage, everything dead, and had to get a few passerbys to help push me into my spot. later in the day, prepared to dig out the trunk release, i hit the fob out of routine and the doors clicked. i immediately popped the trunk while i had power.

terminals were just barely touching the battery posts.

Let me ask this....did it feel like you were giving if fuel and nothing was happening? Did it try to start...which is different than the battery was dead? I had this happen twice to me...ruptured fuel line. So I'm with Oak on this...fuel related.

Yes, exactly. I depressed the gas pedal and it was like the car was off, no matter how much throttle I gave it, the car just coasted to a stop. It almost felt like there was no gas. But, after this happened, I tried it and it started, but only ran for about 30 seconds and the same thing happened. This happened a third time, and then I couldn't get it started again.

So, if it is a ruptured fuel line......my theory of an animal chewing a wire could hold true for the fuel line????

No way...the fuel line is inside the fuel tank. What was explained to me was the line (made of some sort of rubber(polymer)) looked as though it was being attacked by the fuel (I was using VP100 at the time). It is either the fuel line or the fuel pump which is also known to be a problem on our cars.

I guess for a car thats 6 years old, thiings will occur. For the 18 months I have had the car, I have been trouble free. Hopefully it wont be a HUGE repair.
