Windshield 'stone chip' repair
Windshield 'stone chip' repair
Ok guys,
Washed the car today and noticed a nice little chip in my front windshield!! Is there any way to fix this without replacing the whole thing? (not that I plan on doing that...)
All input is appreciated, thanx

Great question msindi. Actually my windshield is totally pitted. I don't want to replace the windshield. So what's the best way to remove all the imperfections without having to get a new windshield?
thanks
thanks
I had the windshield on the race car repaired for a small chip. So far so good.
On the other hand, I did not have the windshield in my daughters car repaired after an errant S2000 went off track and threw a rock at the windshield. Although it was a small chip, with no apparent crack, the windshield eventually cracked.
Check your yellow pages and I bet you'll find a chip repair place in your area.

Ok don't laugh... I had a couple of nasty rock chips/cracks and left it at that. I went and got a tequipment roll bar and had the dealer install it. When they installed the roll bar they managed to smack the windshield and really crack it. Hence I got a new one under warranty. Just passing on info
replacing the windshield may not be as expensive as you think ... but , do not do it at the dealer ... I got a crack in a BMW that I had ... dealer wanted $900 to replace ... got it done for $175 including them coming to my house and replacing it right there ... and it was THE EXACT SAME GLASS.
not sure on the TT, but assume it is the same.

You won't get a Turbo windshield for $175.
Haven't had to replace my Turbo's windshield, but as bad luck would have it my other Porsche, a Boxster S, is having its windshield repaired or replaced today.
I got a real nasty stone chip Sunday (more like two chunks out of the glass from a flying rock) on my way back to Dallas from Prescott AZ.
The glass shop said the Boxster's windshield, if it's replaced would run almost $500 for the glass (and no this is not being ran through the Porsche dealership).
I did replace a side window on my Turbo (a dufus who was careless with a fence gate scratched it) and that glass was like $120.
There's no aftermarket glass for these cars, so you're talking buying whatever is the OEM glass, and it's expensive.

Repair is possible, if it's not too big and is
not in your direct line of sight (after some of the repairs I've seen, you still see a dark spot on the inside of the glass). If they do a good job, the repair should be nice and smooth and you won't see it from the outside.
BTW, from what I understand, most insurance companies will waive your deductible on a repair, for windshields that can be repaired. So it may cost you nothing.

More interested in repair here!! I heard that windshield replacements will never seal as good as the factory ones..
Also, what do they do to reapir a little chip in glass?? Any details on the process/materials?? How long would it take?
