New Swaybar Project - Road Racers Opinions Wanted

I am a big fan of having a good amount of oversteer with awd cars. Currently I run a H&R 24mm rear adj bar only. Stock front. I feel the rear needs to come around more and the awd will pull you through. That is how I always drove my STI's and EVO's. I do agree in a balanced suspension and front sway bars are good. So with all the Agency Power suspension bits we have for the 996TT, I wanted to come up with one more beefy product for the road racer guys.

I have started with the rear sway bar. This is a solid bar like the H&R. The H&R is 24mm and the GT3 which is light and hollow I think is only 23 or maybe 21mm. So i put together this 3 way adjustable 25mm rear sway bar. We also did nice clean CNC machined bushing mounts. This bar is not painted so looks raw metal.

We are going to do the front bar as well later. What I wanted to know from the road racers and canyon runners is how they feel about having a stiffer more aggressive rear sway bar? If priced similar to the H&R at around $270, would you buy this?

This is the bar I ran at Texas Motor Speedway. Even though I was not pushing the car hard in straights, it was being pushed into turns. I was on street tires so a little issues...

Here are some sneak shots:

You had the H&R rear sway on its tightest setting and you were not happy ?

Any camber plates etc. coming ?
Those would be even nicer for an understeering TT...

I have run the H&R on all 3 settings. Its kinda like a turbo, the bigger they are, you dont need as much boost to still make power. I did not say I was not happy, but I have an alternative.

nice idea Dan but most of us have already upgraded the rear sway.
I am going with upgraded rear toe links, there is an idea that would help most guys.
also what can you come up with for a full rear wheel drive conversion kit?

Toe links

Tom -

I've been thinking about the rear toe links. What's the advantage?

Recomend changing rear toe links and the caster bushes.
I have changed over a number of cars and the rear suspension upgrades transform the handling.

What brand/manufacturer of caster bushes are you using? Are you Melbourne based?

Yes, more info please if there is an Australian option.

What does this actually do that a tighter swaybar won't do? Is it complementary to a swaybar upgrade?

My preference would be an mild to moderate oversteer condition as well. However, there seems to be a point where snap oversteer condition occurs and that would not be desireable. A sway bar that supports a smooth transitional oversteer and allows the AWD to pull through cornering is something that I would personally purchase and enjoy.

ON my EVO I went through bushings, end links, and a larger sway bar in setting it up for track only to back it down a little after it began to get a bit rigid. It almost seemed as though the more setup it became the more you had to overdrive he car and the input became necessarily twitchy......the car is better now with a little less rigidity.

If you run an aggressive alignment and good wide (305+) rear tires, even with an adjustable sway set at full stiff, you should really only be seeing snap oversteer if and when you lift off, which you shouldnt be doing anyways.

Dan, i think a rear sway would sell really well. Here's why...

1. As per your history, you guys price things extremely competitively.
2. The market will continue to flood itself with low priced Turbos constantly bringing in a new crowd of owners looking to do simple, inexpensive but effect mods (IMO the rear sway is one of the best "bang for your buck" modifications)
3. Alot of people dont want to add weight (H&R) to the rear end and a lot of people dont want to run the GT3 hollow because it's coming off a narrow body car so the geometry isnt quite correct. The only company that i know of that makes a stiffer, hollow, adjustable rear sway is GMG but theirs runs $350+ i believe.

Good luck!

very good feedback and I agree with you. alot of people run the GT3 bar but it really is not made for the TT and does fit alittle odd.

Based in Noosa, in sunny Queensland.
We make our own caster bushes and rear toe arms.
