996 Turbo / GT2 Turbo discussion on previous model 2000-2005 Porsche 911 Twin Turbo and 911 GT2.

Would you consider the 996TT a supercar?

Funny thing is I would say the 959 is a supercar. My first impression is that a 996tt is not. Doesn't the 996tt have better performance numbers than the 959? I think low production numbers are another thing to consider and that's where the 996tt might fail the test.

Yes Yes Yes

Everything you dream about fast in either 1/4 mile, top speed, handling, etc. Is the car far out in styling(NOT) but that maybe the only area, that some would say its not a supercar. For me that a major PLUS. Where you can take the car anywhere and not worry about it. I've owned every make auto and by far this has given me more fun and joy than any car I've owned.

yeah, but the thing is, in it's day, the 959 was and arguably still is a supercar.
different time and age, really. the 959 as a "specialness" about it. I think it has quite a bit to do with the fact that it was visually different from the 911's at the time. it was similar, however, it was different. also, the technology introduced in that car was unheard of for it's day -- tire pressure monitoring, electronic boost regulation, advanced all wheel drive, etc. performance numbers are not the only thing that is important. hell, a brand new 70K Lotus Exige 'S' 240 is as quick in a straight line as the F40. does that mean the lotus is a "exotic" it is a fast car, but I think of them more in the same light as I think of a Nobel, GT3's and other track cars. very fast and capable, but designed really for a singular purpose.

I wouldn't call a Supercar but a Super-Dupper car, yes.

I forget the name, but Top Gear had some car on the other night that was incredible. It had something like 1000 hp and weighed very little. It topped their time chart on the airfield track.

Not in my opinion. It isn't exclusive enough and styling makes it virtually like all other 911's. The majority of people don't even notice it.

Drive a red Ferrari and see the heads turn, even if it is a 360 that can be had for about 90K today.

Yes, definately a Supercar.....based on out of the box performance when released, and by which other cars it was tested against by the automotive press for benchmarking. Even Clarkson calls it a Supercar.....

Not an exotic as some has said

The guy that said SL55, M5, etc.......is WAY off base. I don't see those tested against Lambos or Ferraris. They are uber-fast sedans, not sportscars.....certainly not Supercars.

Not sure if thats a complement or an insult. I think the NSX is more the Civic of supercars (if you rate the NSX a supercar).
