I was looking at some old road tests where the 996TT was referred to as a supercar. What do you think? Would you consider it a supercar?
Stock no.
My level of performance yes;
It accelerates like and Enzo and does EVERYTHING else extemely well
(equal to most of the World's SuperCars).
The styling is fairly timeless and looks really good going down the highway.

There is no way a 911 turbo is a supercar, its just a high-performance sports car like an SL55 or an M6. None of these are supercars, they are just a higher performance version of cars like 911 carrera, SL500, and 645ci.
Performance does not make a car a "supercar". There are 8-second tuned honda civics that would wipe the floor with a 911 turbo, does that make it also a supercar

I think it is. It is 140k new or so...was at least. It is one you can actually use and get fixed...
I suspect part of the equation is limitted supply.....so no there....to be honest....
Is the GT-R a supercar....EVO called it a supercar....fyi.

It depends on your personal definition I guess. But if you say that 911 turbo is a supercar, then cars like SL55 (any 55/600/65 benz really), M5/M6, corvette Z06, Dodge Viper, Nissan GT-R are also supercars.
What does that make Ferrari's and Lambo's then? "Hypercars"? IMO, there has to be a distinction between the aforementioned cars and the "real supercars". Regardless of a definition, a 911 turbo is not on the same level as a Lamborghini Murcielago or a Porsche Carrera GT. Far from it. In my view, if a car is based on another car that is not a supercar, then it can never really be a supercar since its just a "tuned" version of a regular sports car.

I believe the Porsche Turbo is an "everyday supercar"
Performance is a big equation in the supercar classification and the turbo delivers. Straightaways or in the bends and tracks. Can a "modified 8-sec honda " do that?
Lets first off, talk stock for stock. A Honda civic is a family car. The 996 or 997 turbo is a $120k plus car born of race/track/heritage engineering. You buy a porsche because you want a sports car, not a four dour sedan that you plan on ripping apart to put on the quartermile. The Porsche can be driven daily. It does everything well with precision...acceleration, handling, feel, comfort... etc.....
Now, it is not an exotic or very limited supply car like a Ferrari or Lambo, but it still illcits the same passion and stare from enthusiasts. It does have an exclusiveness. We are still a lucky "few" who get to own and drive turbo. And the Porsche can be serviced with much more accessibility.
Comparing the Turbo apples to apples, stock to stock with other cars.... yes it is a supercar.

It is an issue of performance & exclusivity & looks & .......all put together, an example? How about a Pagani ZondaF, now that is a super car, cheers.
