brake ducts
brake ducts
So, being the "smart consumer" I followed the thread by MidnightTT and Silvershark about the 997TT brake ducts...they were very similar to the 996GT3 ducts and ONLY 9.xx dollars US.
The price was correct. I got mine via an internet parts warehouse in 2 days...I got 2 pairs.
So, I go under my car and lo and behold, the ducts on my fronts seem bigger than these....no extra internal wings or such, but in pure surface area terms they actually look bigger.
There are two metal clips on each. These clips would not budge from my limitted point of view and to make an analogy, they seemed liked a locking version of the clips you got with pants a long time ago on hangers...the double clip "claw" type of thing.
Anyway, are 996TT stock ducts really big? Did my prior owner put GT3RS ducts on perhaps?
Thanks in advance (TIA)!

The regular GT3 ducts are not that different vs. the tt ducts in terms of overall size/area. The GT3 Cup ducts are the ones you need to order if you want some more efficient cooling...of course, a pair of those are $250+! They are much deeper so you need to be careful to not scrape them off when on the road. I just put mine for this upcoming track season...hoping that it will help a bit, especially later in the summer.
I followed the same thread and bought the same 997 ducts. I put them on at my mechanic's shop and we both noticed that the surface area on the 996 ducts appeared "bigger" as it was much taller but the 997 ducts seem to go back further towards the actual rotor. It looks like they might actually work better and be a legitimate upgrade so I left them on. I have not seen the 996GT3rs ducts in comparison but I'm not yet ready to spend the money upgrading until I absolutely need them...
Put em on and see how they work! Can't beat the price!

Ok, plan is to hack the 997 turbo units for my 996 rear and put them on as is (stock) on the front and go from there. I really think the job would be 1 minute at each corner in the front and about 5 per rear on a lift....so I'll wait.
Gotta say, first porsche part that was close to reasonable to buy....I might call Bill D and ask....Drew, do you lift at all because of the ducts (slower air under the car....)?
