Tyre plug

Ok picked up a screw into my tyre. Tyre shop fitted plug-a-hole plug. How fast can car be driven now? I suppose v-max is out of the question?

"they" "say" not to drive above 100 and that you should NEVER drive hard on it.

I agree, I would have someone demount the tire and hot patch it.

BUT the problem is air can get between the belts/fibers and under heavy use the tire can heat up and go "BOOM" Thats why you never plug a motorcycle tire. I would email Damon at tire rack and get his opinion....

Guys. If you are planning on running at high speed you REALLY want to replace any plugged tires. I know it is a PIA but nothing compared to an instant tire failure. We are talking about your LIFE [and your passenger and anyone unlucky enough to be in your way if you have a "big one"].

Quite some while ago they banned anything less than superb tires on the Silver State runs after a few nasty fatalities. If you do big speed its not like a simple blowout at somewhat legal highway speeds. Aero comes into play and even in a straight line your car can become unstable and..yes.. fly. The landings are terrible. A tire, or a pair, is very cheap life insurance.

Stay safe

Even hot patched....
I share the frustration. I seem to get nails... always in my rears $$ and always in the turbo cars. Arrrgh.

I have SCCA raced with repaired street/shaved tires but probably never went over 130 in the particular cars and never had a problem. On the street it is a matter of "How bad the damage was. How well the repair was done. How FAST you are going"... and for that matter, "How much speed are you holding? " oh, let's not forget "Do you feel .....lucky?" [wellllll, do ya??] This is a personal battle I fought with myself several times and quite a while ago. I remember a burst to over 170 and REALIZING ONE OF MY REARS HAD A PATCH! The dynamic forces on a tire at huge speeds are incredible. The repercussions of a blown tire are unthinkable. I have been in 3 BIG accidents and twice due to equipment failures- on the track. I am thankful I had the full compliment of safety equipment as I genuinely needed it. To have something like this happen on the open road with street clothing and other traffic gives me chills.

Please. If you have a damaged tire, I ...think.. you are ok in general agressive driving as long as it is safely repaired.. But never use it for huge speeds. These things attain big speed so effortlessly.....

Mine was hot patched too. However, I agree high speed runs are bad idea. The good thing is that my tyres only have 2000 miles of life left, so I will replace anyway. But it's an interesting debate as tyre shop after repair said not to worry now good as new and no probs going v-max. Now that’s alarming don’t you think? I think there should be law preventing them making such guaranteed statements?
