Benefit of 19s vs. 18s
. Especially not with 19's. Obviously, you don't know my history on this board. My previous 996 Turbo was the Protomotive development car that started it all for the 996 generation and won the first EC magazine shootout. I think I know the mod market just a little bit.
But I suppose it's a moot point, since my 997 GT2 just arrived at the dealer yesterday. And for now, it has 19's. Good luck playing catch up now...
I suppose since you think the Turbo is not fit for the track and anyone who has one should stick to docile street driving, and that you shouldnt put on 19's because Porsche says so that you wouldnt do anthing Porsche doesnt recommend. I'm sure mods are not on Porsches list either. So my mistake for making that assumption.
We'll just have to meet at a track and see who's the one playing catch up. You're making a foolish assumption that your car (that you havent even driven before) is automatically faster than mine. But I'm not one to talk, let's see for real.

If I can resist installing my 19s untill after the weekend i will have a nice dragstip comparison between 18 and 19s. Unfourtunatly i have contis on the 19 and pilots on the 18.
The pilots have more grip so it really wont be a fair conparison.

What would make you assume my GT2 is stock? Your Turbo around a race track would not beat my GT2, even with its "stock" configuration (Porsche Motorsport parts are considered "stock" right?)

You really are a crack up. I love how you pick fights with everyone, including the people who are on your side.
I doubt we will ever be at the same track on the same day. I suppose I am making a foolish assumption that the new GT2 is worse than a lightly modded Turbo.

Well I suppose just to make sure I will buy a Skyline GT-R then and hire some eggheads from Japan with some remote telemetry computers to make sure I can beat you in your super Turbo.

With all the amount of time you spend on this board fighting with everyone in these intellectual circle jerks, I'm surprised you actually find the time to drive your car. As for me, I'm gonna enjoy my new car riding on 19's
Have yourself a great weekend.

Have yourself a great weekend.LOL, on the contrary, the reason WHY I argue is because I know better. I can look at the videos and data and see where there is simply bad driving, and much of it intentional.
We may never be on the same track same day but I'll be making my way over to cali at some point to do some tracks. Trust me, I'm not combative, I'd really just love to see a new GT2 on track as I'm a big fan of it and wish the best for it.
BUT
Just as with the new ACR, ZR-1, Vspec or whatever it may be, I'll make sure my car is on the same level or ahead, and right now I have no reason to believe it couldnt hang with any of them. 600 hp 3300 lbs and suspension is not exactly lightly modded and is right on par with most of the big dogs. I beleive my car is a drivers race with any of the above (well I personally think the ACR is the fastest by a smidge and with all that downforce it will be the toughest to beat).
So that means it's me vs whoever and I'm not too shabby, so at the very least it would be a lot of fun. I'd really like to see how my car stacks up against the best.
But I'm very competitive, so if you offer to show me your tailights, I'll be the first to accept, dont care who it is.
Not to take any sides here but only for argument sakes, I believe the 997GT2 in pure stock form will be much faster around the track than 90% of heavily street modified 996TTs. Just as an example it was faster than the RUF RT12 650hp at the 'Ring ( and trust me the RT12 in good hands is a VERY capable weapon), and when one looks at the datalogs, it was faster in every single turn almost, the RT12 caught up some seconds in the straights. That says a lot about the potential of that car.
Haterade? Hmm. Not me. I am just here to learn and occasionally comment, or in this case, call out someone with too big of an ego. And I do not claim to know these cars or have racing skills, but I do know cars in general. I am just new to the Porsche world.
Carry on with those swingin big dicks!

No problem, I love debating relative lap times. But take into consideration the RT12 comes with 19's and 20's, I dont know if the one that ran the lap had those, but if so, they werent very helpful. On top of that the RT12 comes with a sport suspension that is more street than track, and there remains the question of the drivetrain configuration for the run AWD or RWD. I'd bet there are plenty of TT's here that can beat the RT12 on a circuit and the RT is only 2 seconds behind the GT2 with the same driver on the ring.
So on a normal circuit IMO it's a drivers race, which I like very much.
Actually, part of the magic in the GT2 over the RT-12 are the GT3 suspension parts, which changed the pickup points and geometry. Remember that you are talking about a car that has a 120hp advantage... I would bet that there aren't as many 996's on this board as you think that can beat the RT-12, as it is a very well sorted car.
Very few cars on this board have suspension modifications that are worth mentioning, with the exception of 1BADGT2... that's what you call a fuking suspension! Are your suspension mods at that level?
In order for your car to be as fast or faster than the new GT2 given the same driver, you should probably look at swapping out your suspension with new links and different uprights (machined to RSR specs). Not to mention some double or triple adjustable race shocks... The 996 Turbo's suspension is not really designed for lower ride heights... there is a long, extensive write up about this by Ken a couple of years ago. You can also speak with Cary Eisenlohr, our resident suspension guru.
Also, what happens when a GT2 gets modded for more power and you throw in a set of Motons or JRZs?
I will let you know what I think of the GT2 when I pick it up this afternoon.

You were surely trying to impress someone by throwing up your automotive "resume" for all to see. I'm sure others are impressed....

What is there to call out? My automotive "resume" is not meant to impress anyone, it's just fact. The FACT that you have a problem with that highlights your own insecurity.
Unless you have a specific problem with any of my arguments or knowledge about Porsches (which clearly eclipses yours by quite a bit), then I don't think there is really anything left to say to you.
So why don't you contribute to the DISCUSSION or butt out? I was never talking to you anyway.
