In search of 996TT wisdom
In search of 996TT wisdom
I have a new baby and I'm stuck driving an 03 CRV everyday to daycare and work... I need help! I am considering buying a TT, an 07 RS-4 or an 06 M5. My budget would probably put me into a nice 01,02 or 03 with 15-45k miles. I'm new to the forum, could anyone provide any insight into which of these years produced the most reliable TTs? Any of these to avoid or seek for some other reason?. If this has been covered could you please point me to the thread, I could not find it.
I drove a 2003 TT and was blown away by the straight line acceleration and deceleration. The cars steering felt heavy and not very nimble but I suspect that is the 4WD. At speed, lateral grip was outstanding. Got back in my 350z and felt like I was driving an 85' corolla. Its been a few weeks since I drove the TT and I still find myself thinking about her.
thanks.

Go after the latest model that you can afford. I went for an 03 996 TT when I started looking. I believe some of the 01s had some issues, at least that is what I got out of researching. FYI, I sold my 06 350Z track model and moved to the 996TT. Yup, big difference.
The TT is head and shoulders above your other options. The biggest question you should ask yourself honestly is:
1. Will you be happy with a totally stock TT?
3. Do you crave rocket launcher acceleration and precise knife edge handling?
3. Is money an issue? IE Can you drop 10-15K into thought out quality parts that will raise the performance level SIGNIFICANTLY with more longevity and reliability issues if you are a bit conscientious with maintenance, proper warm ups, cool downs, checking coolant level.with little to no reliability penalty?
These cars are the pit bulls of the sport car world. Fast, thick, un-tiring, ruff necks that will wear you down to the nuts and bolts and drive away at a stately pace looking every part the uninterested poser passing by when the cops show up.
Park one in the garage and drive it once in a while. You will never get tired of the level of performance and class this car is capable of. You tend to forget it if you drive it every day.

Yeah, I would go with what nickel said about getting the newest year possible. Watch out for the notorious 2nd gear pop out issue, which could be quite costly. Here's the link: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ad.php?t=60061. Also, get the car checked for Type I and II overrevs. Don't take the dealership/private party's word for it; just go to an independent shop that can hook up to the ecu. Good luck!
