Auto leveling headlights

I was wondering if anyone knew if all 996tt headlights are auto-leveling or not? On my other cars if you have the headlights on then turn the key on the lights will shine down then back up to a level position. However, the headlights on my Porsche don't move at all and in fact seem like they are pointed way to low giving poor visibility at night. Anyone know? Thanks!

I will have to try turning the lights on first and then turning the key.

I thought I notice that they adjusted the first time I pulled into the garage with them on..........but, when driving with them on in the darkness, they seem to make a line between the road and the darkness that seems low as well.

Also, there is a slight difference in the height of the 2 lights; driver side looks about 3 or 4 lower than passenger side

I am guess the lights are the same for the S and TT.

Yeah I think by design the drivers side is supposed to be a bit lower than the passenger side to avoid blinding oncoming drivers, thats how the lights on both my BMW and Infiniti are setup. I guess I'm concerned that the Porsche lights don't move at all and the fact that they aim so low, it kinda sucks driving at night... almost like having regular halogen headlights.

The lights are manually adjustable, *and* have a leveling function. If the lights
are too high or low, the leveling will try to keep them there. Have the shop
adjust them.

I adjusted mine to my desire. I like to go very late at night for mtn drives. My regular headlights are sometimes confused for high beams. Stock headlight level sucks imo. Now they make a world of diffs, i can see quite a bit ahead going into those turns now. You can adjusted manualy, very easy- read the manual and it will saw how to do it

Thanks guys, I think i can manage the manual adjust part but wanted to get verification on if the lights should move up/down when you first turn them on? If so I need to get that addressed as well. Any thoughts on why they would malfunction?

Turbos came standard with the optional Xenon headlights which are self leveling. The other headlights were the Projector Beam lights that were not leveling. The lights are completely interchangeable with each other. I have seen one 996tt that had Projector Beams, but they must have been swapped out (knowingly or unknowingly).

If you park on a hill and you turn on your lights, you will notice your lights try to level itself.

Go to your garage and face the wall. Turn them on and they level the first time, if you repeat the process they level no more as they remember their position until they detect pitch change.

Good to know, I just checked and they do not move, even after jacking up the rear of the car (to simulate a change in surface level). Any ideas on what to check guys? Appreciate all the help thus far.

The self leveling sensor maybe broken or that the HIDs already leveled themselves before you turned them on. In order to check, turn off the car with the key removed, turn the headlight **** to on, then place the key back into the ignition. You should see the HID light patten move as they are being leveled.
