Mid-Ohio DE video
Hello,
Just returned from a DE at Mid-Ohio. I've posted some in-car video at:
http://quattro.me.uiuc.edu/~jon/Mid-Ohio-08
There was a PCA club race this weekend, and the A-Group was filled with racers doing test-and-tune for the race. I missed one of the instructor runs, so I decided to go out with the A-Group. They kind of messed up the lineup, and they grabbed me to go out in front of the pack. So I got to see most of the big dogs - whizzing by.
I cut the video down to just a couple of laps. Fun, but humbling.
I encountered one odd glitch. I switched to a new set of Hoosiers just before this session. I had run Michelin PSC's before, but I think I'm converted. A couple of times as I got on full throttle, the car seemed to cough briefly. I also noticed that the little yellow light with the triangle and exclamation point flickered at the same time. I later found out that means WTF? from the PSM unit. I am pretty sure that what caused it was the rear tire slipping on the rim. Both rears moved about 1/8 turn sometime during the run. I had them rebalanced at the Hoosier truck, and one was off 3 ounces and the other 1.25. That produces some rather noticeable vibration at 150 mph.
One other thing - I bought rear control arms and toe links from Dan at Vivid Racing. They worked out great! I ran with -2.5 deg camber in the rear, and for the first time ever, I saw pretty much even tire wear and temps across the rear tires. Now, if I could only figure out how to get more than -1.8 deg in the front. Camber plates are maxed out.

Wow, that looked like a LOT of fun. I was actually invited to two track events on May 5th, unfortunately I couldn't attend either. I'm going to have to keep in touch with the local Porsche guys so I can find the next event!!!
I'd love to do the KY event in June, but I've got 3 baseball games with the kids that weekend, 2 of which I have to coach. I'll keep my eyes open, though, and make it to something this summer!
Central Indiana has an event in September at Putnam Park. Always a very well run affair. A friend and I usually do the classroom for them, but I'll be out of the country for this one.
